Woolford, Henry E. (Killed in Action – 1918)
Green Bay – Lieut. Henry E. Woolford, Green Bay officer, died of wounds received
while leading his men of the One Hundred Second Infantry into action, according
to information received by his brother, W.B. Woolford, from a chaplain who was
with the young man at his death. Lieut. Woolford faced a battery of German
machine gunners and was wounded. “He died gallantly after showing more than
average nerve,” said the chaplain in his letter. Lieut. Woolford was an amateur
ball player of considerable ability a few years ago. A widow and two babes
survive him.
