Hodgdon, James (Drowning Death – 1918)
Rhinelander – William and James Hodgdon, 6 and 14 years old, respectively, lost
their lives boating on the Turtle River, near Winchester. While moving about in
the boat the younger brother fell overboard and the other leaped to his rescue.
James succeeded in grasping the boy and was swimming with him to shore when he
became exhausted and both drowned before assistance could reach them. The boys
were sons of A.D. Hodgdon, a former Rhinelander lumberman.
