Janesville Settlement (28 Nov 1918)

The J.S. Red Cross met with Mrs. Martha Dillenbeck Thursday afternoon. Most of the ladies are knitting sweaters this month. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Clark Hatton next Friday, Nov. 29. Everyone come and knit. All those knitting sweaters are requested to have them done so they can be handed in to the Greenwood chapter not later than Dec. 10.

Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Stafford of Greenwood called on Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Keefe Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Bahl received word that their son, Victor, has been gassed and is in a hospital in France. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Keefe received word that their nephew, Earl Thompkins, has been seriously ill from being gassed. Earl spent several months here with his aunt two years ago.

Helen Farning called on Mrs. Chas. Churkey Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Chas. Bostwick was a business caller in West Eaton at H. Bostwick’s and George Gemmeke’s Tuesday.

Ben Stanley sawed wood for Ed. Keefe Monday.

Joseph Buettner spent Sunday evening at Ed. Keefe’s.

Fred Kalkofen of the Janesville Settlement is the proudest boy in seven states and who could blame him, for he became cousin twice in one night. That’s going some.

Fred Kalkofen called on Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kalkofen in Eaton Center Friday to see his new baby cousin.

Inez Clintsman spent Thursday afternoon with her mother at Globe.

John Jacklin of Globe shot a fine buck the first of the hunting season.

Mrs. Chas. Bostwick is sending a week with her sister, Mrs. Clark Hatton.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Keefe spent Sunday evening at Al. Flagg’s.

Fred Kalkofen spent several days at the Pitts home in Tioga.

Joe Lakatick, Mike Podovnick, Joe Osinech and Stryker Flagg were business callers at Neillsville Saturday.

Wm. Rowert spent Sunday evening with F.Hatton.

Amanda Boe, who has been very ill with the flu at the Carl Jornby home, is able to be out again. We are all very glad to hear it.

F. Hatton called on Mrs. Dillenbeck and Mrs. M.M. Bahl Sunday.
