Stencil, Regina Z. (Hintz) (26 AUG 1921 - 18 SEP 2015)
Regina Z. Stencil, 94, Edgar, WI walked into the arms of the Lord on Friday,
September 18, 2015, at Our House Senior Living Memory Care, Wausau, WI,
surrounded by her family in prayer.
Regina was born on August 26, 1921, at home, in Bevent, Wisconsin, to Roman and
Frances (Mozoch) Hintz. She married John Sylvester Stencil, October 25, 1938 at
St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent, Wisconsin, by the Rev. M. Rombalski.
Together they started dairy farming in 1943, in the town of Rib Falls, until
retiring in 1980. Regina attended St. Ladislaus Catholic School, Bevent, WI and
East County Line School, Shantytown, WI On August 17, 1937 she received the
Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent, WI. Her
Confirmation sponsor was Isabella Hintz. She was godmother to Karen (Hintz)
Danczyk and Laura (Rauen) Achterberg.
After school, Regina worked at home for one year and then worked in Stevens
Point, WI, for a local dentist, Dr. Charles Jenson, as a housekeeper for one
year. After marrying in 1938, Regina moved to Watersmeet, Michigan, and worked
as a cook for her father-in-law, Anton Stencil Logging camp, from 1938 to 1939.
In1939 they moved to Edgar, started their family and farmed for one year. In
1940 Regina and her husband returned to Watersmeet, Michigan, to work. In 1943
she returned to Edgar and together with her husband, John, started dairy
farming.
From 1948 to 1951 she was employed, throughout the winter, at the Edgar Basket
Factory. Regina also worked several years in area ginseng gardens. Regina and
her husband dairy farmed from 1943 until they retired in 1980. They celebrated
their 65th Wedding Anniversary October 25, 2003. They were married 66 years when
her lifelong partner and husband, John, age 86, died on January 16, 2004.
Regina was born the 5th in a family of 13 children and married John, who was
born 2nd in a family of nine children and felt blessed to have eight children of
their own. Regina lived her faith. She found the good in everyone. She often was
praying a novena for someone. She prayed the rosary daily, always offering
intentions for her children, grandchildren, siblings, those who have left the
church or have difficulty getting to church, for travelers and for those who
have no one praying for them.
She introduced her children to the life of her favorite saints; St. Jude, St.
Anthony, St. Theresa and St. Gerard, whom she prayed to often. When mother
couldn't attend mass she would watch it on TV. Mother could pray in both Polish
and English. Mother enjoyed spending time with her husband, children,
grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She enjoyed
playing cards especially sheepshead with relatives while celebrating the Stencil
birthdays. She also played canasta, with her sister Sally, until the early hours
of the morning.
With the little children she would play cards by making houses out of the cards.
She enjoyed canning together with her cousin Anna Cummings, when their families
were young and growing. She will be remembered for her orange poppy flower
garden on the farm. Mother loved flowers and would find every free moment of her
day tending to them. She would pray a Hail Mary for each flower as she watered
each plant so she knew she was giving them all the same amount of love and
water.
Her interest included yeast baking, cooking, gardening, canning, growing
flowers, picking berries and spoiling her Maltese puppy, Boo. Mother always
wanted to open a yeast bakery shop. Her children remember walking into the warm
house after school with the smell of fresh baked bread, caramel sweet rolls,
white sugar cookies with raisin faces, Christmas cut out cookies, molasses
cookies, jelly roll, raised doughnuts and apple pies. Mother's eyes would light
up when children entered her room. Mother had a quick wit about her when she
wanted to give you a smile. Mother was the perfect farm wife, working side by
side with her husband. A frequent quote heard while growing up on the farm from
our parents was "your neighbors are your greatest assets."
Mother was very appreciative of the care her children were giving her as she
struggled with Alzheimer's disease since the fall of 2004. She was a member of
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar, and the Christian Mothers Society.
Many of us will choose to remember her as a companion on our journey in life but
especially as an example of how to live your faith. The family wishes to thank
her compassionate and devoted physician, Dr. Lori Remeika, Marshfield Clinic,
and nurses Stacy and Trina for their caring, tender and consistent care. We
would also like to thank Karissa and Tonya from Community Care, Amy and her
angels from Aspirus Comfort Care and the wonderful, gentle and caring staff at
Our House Senior Living Memory Care whom treated mother and the entire family
with love and compassion.
Survivors include her six children who loved, admired and laughed with their
mom: JoAnn Rauen, Edgar, Adrienne Stencil, Grand Prairie, Texas, Beverly (Daryl)
Dvorak, Lake Tomahawk, WI, Sandra (Herman) Danczyk, Marathon, WI, James
(Patricia Framke) Stencil, and Terrance (Debbie Heise) Stencil, Edgar, WI.
Together her children cared for their parents since 1997, as Alzheimer's disease
robbed them each of their memories, but gifted her children with precious time
spent with them. She is further survived by 17 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren,
She is further survived by three sisters, Selma Studinsk-Glodowski, Lillian
Kaminski, Stevens Point, WI and Dorothy (James) Wachowiak, Milwaukee, WI, two
sisters-in-law, Henrietta Hintz, Stevens Point, WI, and Elsie Hintz, Rosholt,
WI.
