Reber, Walter (22 November 1901 - 17 February 1974)
A retired cheesemaker, Walter Reber, 72, died February 17 at his home in
Neillsville. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon from the
Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ
officiating. Milo Mabie was in charge of Masonic services. Burial was to be in
the Town of Weston Cemetery at Christie.
Mr. Reber, the son of Christian and Rosetta (Bartschi) Reber, was born November
22, 1901, at Schanagnan, Switzerland, and was educated there. He came to the
United States at the age of 21 and worked in cheese factories at Monroe, Rice
Lake and Loyal before coming to Neillsville in 1939. Mr. Reber operated the
Kurth factory for 14 years. He retired in 1969 and moved to the city.
His marriage to the former Julia Klug took place September 18, 1934, in Loyal.
Mrs. Reber preceded her husband in death in 1965. Mr. Reber was a member of the
United Church of Christ and of Neillsville Lodge No. 163 F. & A.M.
Surviving are four children: Mrs. Darol (Margaret) Lewis of Rt. 1 Neillsville,
Richard W. Reber of Black River Falls, Mrs. James (Carol) Chadwick of Rt. 1
Greenwood, and Mrs. Curtis (Nancy) Gest of Milwaukee; and fifteen grandchildren.
He is further survived by two sisters: Mrs. Martin (Martha) Cerutti and Mrs.
Fredia Bussmann of Switzerland; and by one brother, Ernest Reber, also of
Switzerland.

Funeral services were held February 20 from the Georgas Funeral Home for Walter
Reber, 72, of Neillsville, who died February 17. Interment was in the Weston
Cemetery at Christie. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ
officiated. Masonic services were conducted by Milo Mabie.
Pallbearers were: Hans Morgenthaler, Alfred Morneau, George Erickson, Jas. Musil,
Heron Van Gorden, LaVern Gaier and Robert Chadwick.
