North, Herman Edward “Pete” (21 March 1880 - 20 February 1974)

Herman Edward (Pete) North, actively associated with The Neillsville Bank for 73 years and its president emeritus in recent years, died February 20 at the age of 93.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with interment following in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Mr. North was born March 21, 1880, at Montello to Henry and Ottelia (Radtke) North and came to Neillsville as a child with his parents. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School and Northwestern College at Watertown, then returned to Neillsville at the age of 18 and began his association with The Neillsville Bank. Mr. North became cashier there and elevated to the presidency in 1947. He retired in 1971.

His marriage to the former Helen Marsh took place August 15, 1914, in Neillsville. Mrs. North preceded her husband in death in October of 1970.

Mr. North took an active part in the establishing of Memorial Hospital and Memorial Home. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Janet Pree of Excelsior, Mn, and Mrs. Delbert (Patricia) Struble of Neillsville; one sister, Miss Clara north of Neillsville; two brothers, Gus North of Neillsville and Henry north of Stillwater, Mn; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Walter Ollech, John D. Wuethrich, Donald Braatz, Jacob Hoesly, John A. Flynn and Harold Naedler. Soloist Mrs. Harold Mayer sang “Be Still My Soul” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Victor Lehmann was the accompanist.

Among those who attended the services were the following from out-of-town: Mrs. Janet Pree, Excelsior, Mn; Miss Mary Pree, Williston, Vt.; Mark Pree, Northfield, Mn; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hocker, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dahl and family and Harold Naedler, St. Paul, Mn; Miss Tammy Van Gorden, River Falls; John D. Wuethrich, Greenwood.

Personnel of the Neillsville Bank and of Memorial Hospital and Memorial Home attended the services in a body.
