Miss Jean Frances Kauffman, 816 E. Gorham Street, Madison, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Everett Kauffman, Route 1, Chili (Clark Co., Wis.), exchanged wedding vows
Saturday, May 23, 1970, with Mr. Robert Houston Ashton, Michigan City, Indiana,
son of Mrs. David Montgomery, Michigan City, Indiana.
The wedding began at 6:30 and was a candlelight ceremony, with the bride's
uncle, Dr. Ralph M. Didler, performing the ceremony. The occasion took place at
the First United Methodist Church in Madison.
Mr. Robert Meacham sang two selections, "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."
The bride wore a floor length gown of pepple crepe and Venice lace, with an
A-line crepe skirt, fitted bodice of Venice lace, deep cuffed long sleeves, and
detachable chapel Watteau train, lace edged. Her headpiece was a Venice lace
face framer gathered together into a cascade veil of imported nylon illusion.
She carried a cascade of red roses and stephanotis accented with Camelia
foliage.
The maid of honor was Miss Kathleen Kauffman, sister of the bride, from
Minneapolis, Minn., and the bridesmaid was Miss Lynn Bankers, roommate of the
bride, from Madison, Wis. They wore floor length yellow A-line gowns of chiffon,
a bateau neckline, with long Juliet sleeves and cuffed matching lace. Their
headpieces were tiny face framers with nose veils of imported nylon illusion.
They carried colonial bouquets of white daisies and yellow snowdrift pomps
accented with feather leaf fern.
The best man was Romney Ashton, brother of the groom, and the groomsman was Mr.
Dean Ashton, Michigan City, Indiana.
The usher was Mr. Michael Kauffman, brother of the bride. The bridegroom's
mother gave the rehearsal luncheon Saturday morning at the Lorraine Hotel in
Madison. A wedding buffet reception was held immediately after the ceremony in
the church parlor.
Mrs. Ashton is a 1966 graduate of the Loyal High School, and is presently a
secretary for the Wis. Telephone Company Marketing Dept. in Madison.
.Her husband is a 1970 graduate of Purdue University, obtaining a Bachelor of
Science and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a
member of Tau Beta Pie, Eta Kappa Mu, and Sigma, Pi Sigma. He is presently a
scientific instrument design engineer for the Heath Company, St. Joseph,
Michigan.
After returning from a week's honeymoon in the Smokey Mountains, the couple will
make their home at R.R. 2, Coloma, Michigan.
