Manthey, Jerry “Frog” L. (11 April 1943 - 1 September 2015)
Jerry “Frog” L. Manthey, 72, of Merrillan passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at
his home while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice, Black River
Falls. He was born April 11, 1943, in Madison to Ronald E. and Hazel (Stebbins)
Manthey.
Frog was raised in the Pardeeville area before joining the United States Army in
1962. He served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Following his time in the service, Frog worked as a conductor on the Milwaukee
Line Railroad Company. After his time there, he began working as a truck driver
for various companies.
Frog was united in marriage to Brenda Eddy Nov. 3, 1973, at the Merrillan United
Methodist Church. Together the couple then moved to Merrillan in 1974.
Frog enjoyed fishing, hunting, throwing horseshoes, darts, pool, being outdoors
and socializing. He was a member of the Merrillan American Legion Post.
Frog is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda; sons: Joshua (Brenda) Manthey
and Keven Manthey; daughter, Jodi (Marty) Kalina; eight grandsons, Austan,
Dalton, Trey, Jacob, Zach, Josh, Gavin, and Eli; and many other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a brother; father-in-law,
Roy Eddy; brothers-in-law, Jeff and Rick Eddy.
A memorial service with military honors was held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at 1
p.m. at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton. Reverend Meg Erickson officiated.
Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends were invited for visitation
Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton assisted the family with arrangements.
