Hoops, Lloyd (25 MAR 1927 - 26 SEP 2015)
Lloyd Hoops, 88, of Spencer, died on September 26, 2015. Lloyd was born March
25, 1927 to Ester (Dittman) and Ervin Hoops. Lloyd's family moved to the farm on
Eagle Road when he was 12 and he attended Spencer schools. As he often shared,
he "walked to school and it was uphill both ways".
Lloyd was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. It was there
that he married June Below on September 4, 1949. Lloyd and June enjoyed visiting
state parks, Packer games, playing cards, and just spending time with the Keyes
and Huber families. They shared 59 years together until her death in 2008.
In addition to farming, Lloyd drove milk truck, plowed county roads, and drove a
delivery route for Swift Meats. He later worked at the "milk plant" in Spencer,
which operated under the names of M & M, Dairy Belt, and Land O' Lakes. After
his retirement, Lloyd spent 10 years caring for June, who had Multiple
Sclerosis.
Most recently the family was pleased to be able to spend a last summer on the
farm, sitting on the porch reminiscing with neighbors, friends, and family.
Lloyd is survived by sons Nick Hoops of Wausau and Richard Hoops of Wisconsin
Rapids and daughter Peggy (Bradley) Ewert of Eau Claire. He is also survived by
eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
June, his parents, one brother, and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial of ashes will follow at the West Spencer
Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2 at
Hansen-Schilling funeral home in Spencer.
The Hoops family would like to offer a special "thank you" to extended
caregivers Lonney, Dennis, neighbors, and Tania, (Helping Hands).
