Jerre L. Forbes, 77, Rib Lake, died Monday, Oct. 5 at Golden Living-Rib Lake where he had been residing for the past two months.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 8 at Woodland Community Church, Westboro where there will also be military rites performed by the Westboro VFW military honors team with Pastor Len Robinson officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake. John Henry Hopkins will serve as urnbearer. Visitation will take place at Woodland Community Church, Westboro from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Jerre Forbes was born on Sept. 22, 1938 at San Antonio, Texas to Lynn F. and Nellye R. (Yeates) Forbes. He is a graduate of Artesia High School, Artesia, N.M.; received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and a master’s degree from Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas. He married Jane Steinke, who survives, on Nov. 17, 1968 in North Bend, Wash.

He is a U.S. Navy veteran to the Vietnam War having served from 1961-1968. After his education, he worked as an inspector of nuclear plants for American Nuclear Insurers while residing in Windsor Locks, Conn. until retirement in 2006. In 2008, they moved to Rib Lake to be near family. He did foster care of children for 25 years. He served as chairman of the board of the National Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a period of time. He enjoyed his family, tools, reading, his personal library & bible study groups.

He was a member of Woodland Community Church, Westboro; Gideon’s International and did prison ministry through the Gideon’s organization. He is a past member of Windsor Locks Congregation, Windsor Locks, Conn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rebeccah (Dave) Hopkins of Rib Lake, Chris (Jen) Forbes of North Haven, Conn, Devon (Kara) Forbes of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and 14 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Josean R. Forbes in 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Woodland Community Church in Westboro.
