Sturner, Oscar W. (20 OCT 1888 – 05 DEC 1967)
Funeral services for Oscar Sturner, 79, will be held Friday at the Lulloff
Funeral Home, Colby, at 2 p.m.
Mr. Sturner died early Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville (Clark
Co., Wis.), where he had been a patient.
The Rev. R. James Hagen will officiated at the services. Burial will be made in
Colby Memorial Cemetery. Masonic rites will also be conducted at the funeral
home.
The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home starting at noon today,
Dec. 7.
Oscar William Sturner was born at Lowell, Wis., Oct. 20, 1888. In 1910 he was
married to the former Clara Hilgers, who died April 13, 1956. The couple had no
children.
Mr. Sturner came to Colby as a young man in his early twenties and worked as a
bookkeeper and manager of the Colby Cheese Box Company. He also spent some time
in the western states, and worked at the Colby State Bank for many years. He
then went into business for himself in the Sturner-Cross Insurance Agency.
He served the city as alderman from the First Ward for many years, and was also
the First Ward Supervisor on the Marathon County Board. He was a member of the
Methodist Church and the Colby Masonic Lodge.
Surviving is one sister, Arva Sturner. Besides his wife, he was preceded in
death by seven brothers and three sisters.
