Schreiber, John J. (18 FEB 1888 – 7 DEC 1967)
A long time Milan (Marathon Co., Wis.) merchant, John Schreiber, 79, died Dec.
7, 1967 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. He had been in ill health since
last April.
Services were held Monday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan, at 10:30 a.m.,
with the Rev. Bernard Schreiber of Eau Galle officiating. Burial was made in St.
John's Cemetery at Wuerzburg.
A parish rosary service was conducted at the Gilles and Son Funeral Home at
Athens Sunday evening.
John J. Schreiber was born in Chicago Feb. 18, 1888. His parents came to Milan
when he was 13 years of age, and he lived in the area since then. His marriage
took place in Wuerzburg to Mary Radlinger June 20, 1911. He had been a merchant
in Milan for 58 years, where he operated a grocery store. He also served the
community as postmaster from 1943 to 1958.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Schreiber, town of Johnson, and four daughters,
Miss Catherine Schreiber, Milan, Mrs. Clarence Kramer, Abbotsford; Mrs. Lloyd
Bunkelman, town of Halsey, and Mrs. Phillip Ganser, Mosinee, and 19
grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Bernard Schreiber, town of
Johnson, and a step-sister, Mrs. John Abrahamson, Clintonville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Dec. 12, 1957, and a son.
