Washburn (28 March 1974)
Spring was supposed to have arrived last Thursday, but we wonder? Today,
(Saturday) is more like some of the first days of winter with our five degrees
below zero and maybe lower in some places. Snow flurries again on Thursday and
Friday, with a strong wind on Friday and drifted at times so looked sort of
blizzard and sort of a disagreeable day. Guess if we wait patiently spring will
arrive after a while. Think the weatherman gets mixed up sometimes.
Bible study will be held at the Lyle Cary home in Sherwood Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart, son, Jeff and daughters, Jovey and Jana spent Saturday
night and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short and helped then
celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary which is March 26.
Mr. and Mrs. John Reinart, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reinart, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Reinart attended the wedding of Sue Reinart, daughter of William Reinart, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church Tomah, Saturday.
Mrs. Albert Lincoln will entertain the Washburn Homemakers club Wednesday, April
10 with dinner served at noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Teter arrived home last week Thursday from Mt. Carmel, Il.,
where they spent the winter but arrived back here in our snowstorm of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moennig drove to Hurley Saturday to visit their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weirich and make the acquaintance of their
little grandson. Mr. Moennig returned home Tuesday and Mrs. Moennig remained for
a week to help her daughter and family.
Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr., returned home last week Sunday from Schaumburg, Il.,
where she spent a couple weeks with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Condron, and assisted with the work and caring for her grandsons while
Mrs. Condron underwent surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Piepenhagen of La Crosse spent last weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Austin.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Krause and daughter, Cheryl, Menomonee Falls, spent the
weekend with her mother, Mrs. Irving Stevens and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Krause. Mrs. Floyd Wall, who spent a few weeks with Mrs. Kenneth Bonney at
Richfield and a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Krause, Menomonee Falls, returned
home with them. Brenda Urban spent Saturday night with her grandmother, Mrs.
Stevens also.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kyle were Sunday evening visitors at the Merle Austin home.
Mrs. Jim Faye of Marshfield and mother, Mrs. Barney Plummer visited Mrs. Art
Odell and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Elberts Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Dopp Marshfield were last week Sunday evening visitors at
the Jack Urban home.
Mrs. Walter Trachte was a last week Tuesday caller at the Elmer Kapfer home.
Mrs. Art Williams, who has been a patient at Memorial Hospital for a few weeks,
is improving and expects to return home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Forrester, Fond du Lac, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reinart and
Mrs. Wade Lepke were Thursday evening visitors at the John Reinart home.
Misses Norma and Jean Lincoln, Judy Colenson and Ellen Anderson spent last
weekend with the formers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lincoln.
La Vern and Wayne Vandeberg, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Vandeberg spent Friday
night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Krause were Friday evening callers at the John Reinart home.
