Moore, Mary Kathryn (Shannon) (17 MAY 1927 - 30 SEP 2015)
Mary Kathryn (Shannon) Moore, 88, died on Sept. 30, at her home in Oak Lawn, IL,
in the company of her children, her caregiver, and Advocate Hospice. Mary was
preceded, in death, by her husband of 48 years, Gerald Corrigan Moore, in 2000.
Mary was born on May 17, 1927 and graduated, in 1949, from St Mary of the Woods
College with a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics. She married Jerry in
1951 and together they raised 8 children, Kathleen (Kitty), Maureen, Julie,
Patricia, Stephen, Martha, Gerald Jr., and Rosemary. They are also survived by 5
grandchildren.
Mary Kay and Jerry began their adventure to the north woods in 1975 when Jerry
bought a piece of property, sight unseen, out of an ad in the Chicago Tribune.
Little did they know it would take 15 years to develop the land. But, with the
help of friends and neighbors in Rib Lake, they built their cozy home in the
woods and lived their dream, to revel in the quiet harmony of nature, God’s
signature of Love. They enjoyed travelling around Wisconsin, watching the fall
colors, winter snow, rebirth of spring, and summer baseball at Chet and
Bernie’s. Mary Kay was a volunteer at The Little Store in Medford.
In 2004, Mary Kay sold the Rib Lake home to her daughter, Kitty, who continues
to live there, full time. But “Mom” was a frequent, much loved, visitor, home
decorator, mega-shopper, favorite travel companion, wise counselor, revered
family matriarch, and all round best friend.
Funeral services were held at St. Barnabas Church, in Chicago, on Oct. 6 and she
was laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill. on Oct. 7. For
