Sauer, Joseph “Joe” P. (11 DEC 1919 - 26 OCT 2015)

Joseph “Joe” P. Sauer, age 95, was pronounced at 11:20 AM, Monday, October 26 at his residence in the Town of Medford.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 2 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Phil Juza and Father Dennis Meulemans, officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Medford.

Pallbearers are Ryan Zicco, Steven Voss, Vern Pernsteiner, Ray Metz, Gary Thomas, Phil Werner, Lloyd Guth, and Leon Sauer.

Visitation will be at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4-7 PM on Sunday, November 1 where there will be a 7:00 PM Catholic prayer service held that evening; also from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday morning.

Joseph was born December 11, 1919 at Medford, to Michael and Catherine (Henrichs) Sauer.

He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, Medford, was a 1937 graduate of Medford High School and received a degree from Wausau Technical School.

Joseph was married November 20, 1943 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford to Edna M. Wulf. She preceded him in death May 29, 1993.

After his education, he did factory work in Milwaukee. In 1941 he was drafted into the Army Air Force and served during WW II until 1946. After the military, he resided in Evanston, IL and did painting work for Northwestern University. They moved to Medford in 1951 and owned/operated The Service Bar Tavern until 1955. Then they farmed in the Town of Medford for many years until 1978. While farming, he worked as a painter and decorator in the area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making firewood & maple syrup, spending time with his family and at the cabin in the Town of Molitor.

Joseph was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, the Medford V.F.W. Club and the Medford Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his children, Judy (Robert) Oestreich of Green Valley, AZ, Jayne (John) Mayer of Medford and Jim (Jayne) Sauer of Medford; grandchildren Kim (Gene) Mengel, Jason (Traci) Couillard, Erich (Katrina) Mayer, Anne (Michael) Wolf, Tara Sauer and Tori Sauer; nine great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette (Richard) Miller of Medford and sister-in-law, Donna Sauer of Rib Lake.

Further survived by a special friend, Carol Strebig.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Catherine (Henrichs) Sauer; siblings, Leo, Felix, Alvin and Herbert Sauer, Margaret Pernsteiner, Dolores Dzik, Regina Werner, Frances Guth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to either Holy Rosary Parish, Medford in his name or to the family for a future designation.
