Bills, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert (Golden - 21 April 1974)
Home, to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Bills, is a farm house on Rt. 1 Neillsville, in
the Town of Grant. But the couple, who will observed their golden wedding
anniversary Sunday with an open house from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Bali Hai supper
club, have called several other houses “home” during their married years.
After their April 21, 1924, marriage in Rockford, Il., and then the newlyweds
lived in Beloit for a couple years, then moved to Sauk City where Mr. Bills
worked for the Wisconsin Power and Light Company for 20 years. As his work
required, the family lived in Prairie du Sac, Baraboo, Reedsburg, Fond du Lac,
Markesan, and in Madison, where he was employed as a guard at the state capitol.
Mr. Bills retired from that position in 1954, looked around for a good farm to
buy, and found just what he wanted in Clark County southeast of Neillsville. The
couple retired a number of years ago when they sold their farm, to a daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Drescher, and returned for a time to
Madison. While farming, Mr. Bills also worked for the Badger State Telephone
Company. Nowadays he enjoys gardening in summer and reading in winter.
In Madison, Mrs. Bills worked as a nurses’ aide at the Veterans’’ Hospital and
at Methodist Hospital, and has worked in that capacity at Memorial Hospital and
Memorial Home here. Her hobbies include sewing and knitting.
Mr. and Mrs. Bills are members of the Neillsville United Methodist Church, and
she also belongs to the Pleasant Ridge circle of its UMW society. Mrs. Bills is
a member of the Pleasant Ridge Homemakers Club as well.
The couple’s two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Kay) Drescher and Mrs. William (Betty)
Guk, are both area residents. Two children, Robert and Ione, died in infancy,
and another son, Raymond, lost his life at the age of 21 when he was struck by
lightning while serving in the Marine Corps. There are nine living
grandchildren.
No invitations are being sent locally for the Sunday open house.
