The Rev. Gerald Schuh, pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester,
celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood Sunday.
Dinner for relatives and neighboring clergy was served at 6 o'clock at the
rectory and a mass of celebration took place at 8 p.m. The Rev. Gerald Schuh was
the celebrant, Msgr. Alphonse Schuh of Marshfield was deacon, the Rev. Robert
Agnew of Milladore was the speaker, and the Rev. Emil Hodnik of Abbotsford was
the master of ceremonies. Other clergy taking part were the Rev. John Pinion of
Colby, the Rev. David Malsch of Medford and the Rev. Ralph Geissler and the Rev.
Thomas Smith of Athens.
Following the mass, Father Schuh was the guest of honor at a program in the
church hall. Donald Peissig, president of the church council, gave the welcome,
whichw as followed by "This Is Your Life," prepared by the school children.
Kenneth Marcott, a CCD teacher, gave an address followed by congratulations of
the Ladies' Altar Society, represented by its president, Mrs. Leroy Engel. Miss
Fran Waldhart brought greetings from the young people of the congregation and
gifts were presented by Mrs. Bernard Staab, chief ranger of the National Society
of Catholic Order of Foresters, and William Jantsch, a 40-year trustee of the
church, on behalf of the congregation. Father Schuh responded and the Rev. Emil
Hodnik gave a short talk on behalf of the clergy.
The evening closed with the cutting of a large anniversary cake, which the Altar
Society presented to the honored guest.
A special surprise guest who came from Milwaukee for the occasion was Sr. Viola
of the School of St. Francis. Sr Viola taught Father Schuh when he attended
grade school in Rollingstone, Minn.
Father Schuh has been pastor of St. Louis Congregation, Dorchester, since June
1956. During his 40 years as a priest he served at St. Joseph's Ridge near La
Cross, Cadott, Greenwood, Edson, Blanchardville, Eau Claire and Colby.
