Borek, Lucille Rose (Ruda) (1 JUL 1930 - 25 OCT 2015)
Lucille R. Borek, age 84, of Lublin, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, after a
long battle with Alzheimer's disease at Miller Alternative Care in Thorp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at St. Mary's
Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin. Rev. Marion Talaga will officiate and
burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ron Borek, Jr., Ryan Borek, Derrick Gryga, Devin Gryga,
Randy Borek and Greg Dallas. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on
Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again at the church, on Thursday,
from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Lucille Rose Ruda was born on Dec. 24, 1930 in rural Thorp, to Walter and Anna (Kostick)
Ruda. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Thorp area
schools. After completing her education, she moved to Chicago, where she lived
and worked for two years.
Lucy was united in marriage to Mike Borek, Jr. on Aug. 5, 1950 at St. Mary's
Polish National Catholic Church, in Lublin. They farmed on his parents' farm
until purchasing the neighboring farm in 1953. They continued farming until
selling the cattle and retiring in 1992. Lucy continued to live on the farm
until entering Miller Alternative Care in March of 2011.
In her spare time, she had many hobbies, including fishing, cooking, gardening
and playing cards.
She was a member of St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church and its' Ladies
Aide.
Lucy is survived by her husband: Mike Borek, Jr. of Lublin; three children:
Michael (Bernie) Borek III of Hawkins, Ronald (Karen) Borek of Lublin, Bonnie
(David) Gryga of Conrath; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four
sisters: Mary Ann (Joe) Jasek of Couderay, Sharon (Rick) Dallas of Thorp, Carol
Burns of Schofield, and Geri (Dave) Ebben of Tomahawk; several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter: Karen M. Borek on
Feb. 4, 1953.
The family asks that memorials be given in Lucy's name to the St. Mary's Polish
National Catholic Church Cemetery Fund.
