Klimeck, Adrian “Smokey” (9 DEC 1925 - 30 OCT 2015)

Adrian “Smokey” Klimeck, 89, passed away on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab, in Thorp.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Gilman Funeral Home with Father Madanu Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery-Gilman. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Adrian was born to John & Rose (Bay) Klimeck on December 9, 1925, in Thorp. The family moved to Cadott, and he attended the Cadott schools.

He worked on the home farm, and joined the Navy in February, 1945, and served on the USS Pierce, which was a transport ship, during World War II. He was involved in the battles of Iwo Jima, Tarawa, & Okinawa. After the war ended, he worked at the Northern Colony, doing farm work.

He was married to Verna Mae Eslinger on October 15, 1952, in Edson. They moved to Union Grove, and both worked at the Southern Colony. They moved back to Thorp and rented a farm for a short time. They then moved to Gilman, and he bought a can milk truck, and later a bulk milk truck, and picked up milk for Drangles Cheese factory.

They lived on a hobby farm with pigs, chickens, and horses. He sold his trucks, and then worked at National Presto Industries, during the time that they were making bullets. After that, he went back to driving milk truck for Wild Cherry factory.

He moved to Abbottsford and Colby after retiring, and did some tractor driving for a farmer in Colby. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family. They were also in
a couple’s square dancing group in their younger years.

He is survived by his children: Sharon (Dick) Hughes, Mike, Doug (Corinne), all of Gilman, Tami (Gil) Harrell, of Battle Creek, MI, Cindy (Bob) Boss of Nekoosa, Janet (Craig) Bignell, of Wisconsin Rapids. Sisters: Ethel (Pete) Green of Stetsonville, Kathryn (Sue) Ingersoll, and Adelia (Del) Muratore, both of Abbottsford, Brother: Allan (Penny) Klimeck of Colorado Springs, CO, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother & father, his wife Verna (2006), his step-mother Ethel ( Hakes), Sisters: Ardena Klimeck, Alice Lato, step-sister Ruth Plechacek, Brothers: Karl, Arthur (Jack), and Arlo, son-in-law Joe Pawlik, Jr. and special friend Pat Carpenter.
