Denk, William J. Sr. (28 OCT 1889 – 5 JAN 1957)
William Joseph Denk Sr. was born Oct. 28, 1889 at Clark Mills, Manitowoc Co.,
Wis. and received his education and grew to manhood there.
On Oct. 12, 1910 he was united in marriage with Mary Gintner at Clark Mills.
They came to Greenwood after their marriage and settled on a farm northeast of
here.
Mr. Denk was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a charter member of its
Holy Name Society. He was also a trustee of the church for 12 years.
Mr. Denk passed away at Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison, on Saturday, Jan.
5, 1957. He had entered the hospital the previous Tuesday and had undergone
surgery on Friday. He became ill on Dec. 18 and was a patient at St. Joseph's
Hospital, Marshfield, prior to going to Madison.
The body was at the Hill Funeral Home and a rosary was said there on Monday
evening.
A Requiem Mass was read at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan. 8th at
9:00 a.m. Rev. Father Edward Hartun, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in St.
Mary's Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Joseph Kohlnhofer, Clayton Kohlnhofer, Lawrence Kitzhaber,
Anton Suda, Andrew Lindner and Joseph Gregorich.
Mr. Denk is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Marion) Lyon,
Phillips; Mrs. Victor (Dorothy) Wagner, Greenwood; eight sons, Leonard, Loyal;
Virgil, Alma Center, Abdonard (Donnie), Marshfield; Ronald, Milwaukee, Gerald,
Bernard, William Jr., and Jack, Greenwood; three brothers, Ferdinand,
Auburndale; Charles, Cato; and Anton, Manitowoc; and 37 grandchildren.
Two sons, Robert and Delbert, and his parents preceded him in death.
