Neillsville (18 November 2015)
Friday, Nov. 6, the residents of the city of Neillsville were reminded of how
very dependent we all are on our electricity. No phone service, no radio, no TV,
with a cold lunch and cold coffee. Luckily, our current was restored for the
evening meal. It brought back many memories of my studying by the light of an
oil lamp many, many years ago when my folks moved from the village of Granton to
a farm.
A record number of Granton/Chili senior citizens attended their November meeting
Thursday, Nov. 12, held at the Granton Community Hall. Pastor Doug and Sharon
Bjerke entertained with a patriotic theme for Veterans Day. Members joined along
singing many of the old familiar military songs and relating memories of WWII.
Vicki Schlinsog shared her Thanksgiving table decorations for the food table. A
new member, Sandy Egstad, was welcomed into the group. Wayne Garbisch furnished
ice cream in honor of his birthday, Nov. 16. Officers were all re-elected for
the new year - Monica Mulligan, president; Vicki Schlinsog, vice president; Fern
Rowe and Jane Bartsch, co-secretaries; and Betty Mellon, treasurer. The December
meeting scheduled for Dec. 10, with potluck served around noon, followed by a
social time together. Members are to bring items for the food pantry.
