Opelt, Shelley Renee (25 October 1967 - 12 November 2015)
Shelley Opelt, 48, of Willard died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at her home
following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Shelley Renee Shirley was born Oct. 25, 1967, in Neillsville, the daughter of
Peter and Sandy (Ziegler) Shirley. She graduated from Neillsville High School in
1986 and then worked at Figi’s in Marshfield. Later, she went to work for Frank
Brunner at Brunner Accounting in Neillsville. In 2000, she began employment at
Citizen’s State Bank in Neillsville, where she most recently served as a loan
processor.
Shelley was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe. She
was treasurer for the Town of Seif for many years and was very involved with the
Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal wrestling program. From youth wrestling to high
school, she served on many boards and offices supporting the program. She loved
attending her family’s sporting events and rarely missed when they were playing.
Shelley also loved her friends and enjoyed their outings to the Badger, Packer
and Brewer games.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; three children: Jessica (Kent) Fitzl of
Neillsville, Marshall Opelt and Carson Opelt, both of Willard; two
grandchildren, Delayni and drew Fitzl of Neillsville; her father, Pete (Toni)
Shirley of Willard; her mother, Sandy Shirley of Weyauwega; and two brothers,
Scott (Patti) Shirley of Bradenton, FL, and Todd Shirley of Neillsville.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Funeral service for Shelley will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, with visitation one hour
prior to the service. Pastor John Warmuth will officiate. Visitation was also
held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home. Interment will be
in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Casketbearers are Dennis Miller, Russell Opelt, Mark Mayer, Kevin Schmitz, Mike
Gross, Jeff Gurney, Josh Ziegler and Doug Opelt.
