Smith, Theodore H. (21 OCT 1876 – 8 APR 1957)
Smith H. Miller, La Connor, Wash., sent us the following obituary and he thought
many here would remember Mr. Smith.
Theodore H. Smith, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Smith, was born Oct. 21,
1876 and passed away at Seattle, Wash. on April 8, 1957. When the family resided
in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), they lived on the corner just north of Uncle
George's Blacksmith Shop. His mother passed away in Greenwood and his father in
Wenatchee, Wash.
Mr. Smith left Greenwood about 1896 with Earl Williams, and they went to
Australia, where they stayed a short time. Earl came back and settled in
Everett, Wash. Theo drifted into China, where he became identified with the
British Maritime Customers and was located for years at Wu Hu, about 50 miles up
the Yangtze River. He later transferred to Shanghai where he stayed until the
Chinese took over his apartment house and belongings. (The Reds were just
starting out then). He then came to Seattle with his family. His wife passed
away in Shanghai.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, William Alerton Smith of Olympia, Wash., and
Frank Smith, Seattle, Wash., one daughter, Mrs. Jerry Unger, Seattle, Wash., and
a sister, Mrs. Amy Moritz, Seattle, Wash.
He was a brother of F.W. (Bill) Smith.
