Jerome Hinker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Hinker, received his Army discharge
last week after two years of Army duty.
Jerome entered the army on April 6, 1955 and received his basic training at Fort
Leonard Wood, Mo., and received a special 20 week course at Camp Gordon,
Georgia. He learned how to repair and maintain teletype machines. After
graduation he was sent to Germany. In November 1955 he flew to Germany and was
on duty at Boblinger and Mannheim.
On March 18, 1957, Jerome left his base at Mannheim and drove to Frankfurt,
Germany. He waited five days for clearance to the United States. He left
Frankfurt by air on Saturday night and flew to Scotland, and then on to
Newfoundland, and arrived at McGuire Airport, New Jersey on Sunday, March 24th,
remaining there for two days because of bad weather. They then flew to Chicago,
arriving at O'Hare Airport on Tuesday, March 26th. From here they took a
Greyhound bus to Fort Sheridan, Ill., and after two days he received his Army
discharge on Friday, March 29, 1957.
Jerome is a graduate of the Greenwood High School with the class of 1955.
