Drescher, Jerry Rex (17 December 1937 - 9 November 2015) With Flag

Jerry Rex Drescher 77, of Tacoma, WA, passed away Nov. 9, 2015, in his sleep at his home.

Jerry was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Granton to Warren and Beverly (Karl) Drescher. He graduated from Granton High School in 1956. Jerry was raised on the family dairy farm, where his father operated a machine and blacksmith shop. Jerry had terrific mechanical ability, which he inherited from his father. Jerry was passionate about cars, tractors and trains throughout his life. He owned hundreds of Cadillacs throughout his life and loved to collect cars that reminded him of his childhood.

Jerry joined the National Guard, 32nd Division in 1956 at the age of 18. He served in active duty at Fort Lewis, WA, from 1961 to 1963, when he received an honorable discharge. Jerry spent the rest of his life in Tacoma. He operated his own business and had a very good reputation as a quality contractor with many repeat customers. Jerry married GlennaRae Meyers in 1975 and together they had a son, Rex. In his retirement, Jerry and Rex enjoyed collecting antique cars, toy trains, tractors and other memorabilia.

Jerry is survived by his son, Rex; stepson, Keil and family; and the family of deceased step-son, Garth Daniels. He is also survived by his sister’s family, Larry and Sharon Fitzmaurice, and their son, Doyle (Dawn) Fitzmaurice and family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and step-son, Garth Daniels.

Jerry was known as “Papa Grandpa” to several grandchildren. Pam Weister was a great friend to Jerry in the last years of his life. Jerry had many friends through the Cadillac Club and was always willing to lend an ear or a hand to someone in need.

A Memorial Service for Jerry was held Nov. 28 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Tacoma.

Burial will take place at a later date at the family lot in Wisconsin in the Township of Grant Cemetery (Clark County).
