Hartson, Wellen G. (12 AUG 1889 – 8 SEP 1957)

Wellen G. Hartson, son of Henry Hartson and Hilda (Wellen Hartson, was born Aug. 12, 1889 in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). Here he received his education and grew to manhood. He attended a telegraph school at Eau Claire and was employed as a telegraph clerk for a railroad for several years.

On May 14, 1914 he was united in marriage to Velma Snyder at Greenwood. He was a rural mail carrier here and postmaster for nine years. In 1937 the Hartsons moved to Neillsville, where he was employed by the Northern States Power Company until he retired three years ago at the age of 65. He was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 249.

Mr. Hartson, who has been in ill health for several months, passed away at 1:00 a.m. in Memorial Hospital, Neillsville on Sunday, Sept. 8, 1957.

Funeral services were held at the Georgas Funeral Home, Neillsville, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11th. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Greenwood. Rev. Albert Guthmiller, pastor of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Neillsville, officiated. Masonic services were conducted by the Greenwood Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Hartson is survived by his wife Velma, Neillsville; one daughter, Mrs. Allen (Nelle)Wuethrich, Greenwood; two grandchildren, Linda and Sammy Wuethrich, Greenwood; three sisters, Mrs. G.A. (Velma) Jardine, New Virginia, Iowa; Mrs. L.E. (Ruth) Bracet, Washburn, Wis.; Mrs. J. (Marion O'Higgins, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and one brother, Fred of Lyons, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry.
