Svetlik, Ann Martha (3 April 1916 - 8 December 2015) With Flag
Ann M. Svetlik, 99, of Neillsville died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at the
Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Anna Martha Blumenthaler was born April 3, 1916, in Chickasaw, PA, the daughter
of Frank and Rose (Hodouchek) Blumenthaler. She attended rural school in
Gladwin, MI, and then Merrillan and Cadott. She went on to Teachers College in
Eau Claire. She enlisted in the U. S. Navy Waves Oct. 7, 1943. Nov. 10, 1945,
she was united in marriage to Anthony Svetlik at the Topeka, KS U. S. Army Base.
They eventually moved to Neillsville, where Ann worked as the Neillsville Public
School librarian for many years.
Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville, the
Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73, the American Legion and the
Neillsville Chapter of AARP.
She is survived by her children: Kathleen (George) Lewis of Roseburg, OR,
Barbara Svetlik of Marina, CA, Ronald Svetlik or Paicines, CA, Toni (Rick)
Sturtz of Neillsville and Victoria (Daniel Busby) Svetlik of Center City, MN;
six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Goodman of
California.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony; a son-in-law,
Thomas Dornbach; sisters, Mary Ziehr and Catherine Svetlik; and brothers, George
Blumenthaler, who died in World War II and Frank Blumenthaler.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Ann will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 9, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville, with visitation from
9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Celebrant will be Rev. Varkey V. Joseph. Providing
music will be Vicente Cortez, organist, and St. Mary’s Choir. Interment will be
in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
