Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Black of Eau Claire are the parents of a daughter, Juliann Marie. She weighed 3 lbs., 14 oz. She was born Oct. 10th, 1957 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. Mrs. Black is the former Patrica Keiner, granddaughter of Mrs. Christ Keiner.

Axelson, Erick H. (27 February 1907 – 2 April 1986)

Seventy-nine year ol Erick Axelson of 202 W. Mill St., Loyal, passed away Wednesday morning, April 2, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Axelson was born February 27, 1907, at Jarpas, Sweden, a sone of Axel and Hanna Johansson. He married Helen Turnquist on October 20, 1934, at Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago he was employed as a hoisting engineer and later as a water engineer for the City of Chicago Water Department. Serving in the European Theatre during WWII, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a live member of Murray Electric VFW, in Chicago, and he served as Post Commander for twelve years.

Mr and Mrs. Axelson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary during 1984. Mr. Axelson was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; served as National Home Chairman of Illinois for the Childrens Home of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; held membership in Loyal Legion Post 175 and Loyal Lions Club; and was a member of the operating engineers union 150, of Chicago; and the Swedish American Athletic Association, Chicago.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Iva, and nieces and nephews residing in Sweden.

Rev. Richard Sorenson conducted services Saturday, April 5, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Harry Marvin, Harlen Berg, Douglas Felix, Lee Susa, Tom Lindner and Dallas Wuethrich. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Baech. Frances Voit, Dave McKenna, Herbert Richert, John Wuethrich, Herbert Langfeldt, Paul Gloudeman, James Wanen, and Henry Aumann, Jr.

Beirow, Marian (24 October 1925 – 16 April 1986)

Marian Beirow, 60, of 1102 Grant St., Fort Atkinson, died Wednesday, April 16, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital, following a two-year fight against cancer.

The former Marian Schutte was born in Neillsville, October 24, 1925, the daughter of John and Ruth (Ayers) Schutte, Jr. She married George Beirow, of the Town of Oakland, on July 11, 1943, in Lake Mills.

Surviving are here husband, three daughters, Mrs. Loren (Katherine) Altreuter, and Mrs. Roland (Bonnie) Altreuter, both of Jefferson, and Mrs. James (Julie) Nelson, Fort Atkinson; seven grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Ann) Staton, Leesburg, Indiana; and Mrs. Richard (Jean) Ferguson, Wales. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19, in Dunlap Memorial Home. The Rev. Franki Maxwell of Trinity Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson.

Local relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schutte, Mrs. Senta Christman, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Buettner, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Durst, of Fairchild.

DeCremer, Lila L. (24 October 1922 – 16 December 1985)

Rev. Paul Forde will conduct graveside services Wednesday, April 16, 10 a.m., at Neillsville City Cemetery for former city resident Mrs. Norman (Lila) DeCremer. Mrs. DeCremer, a resident of Puyallup, Washington, passed away December 11, 1985, at Madigan Hospital, Tacoma, Washington. Following cremation, at that time, the ashes were returned to Neillsville for burial.

Lila was born October 24, 1922, in Clark County, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary (Mund) Kuester. On November 29, 1946, she married Norman O. DeCremer, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He predeceased her on April 7, 1963.

Surviving are two children, John DeCremer of Roy, Washington, and Mrs. Harold (Sheila) Key of Puyallup: a sister, Leona Boe, Spencer, and a brother, John Kuester of Lakeland, Florida; and eight grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a great grandson, one brother and two sisters.

Gloff, Mark D. (12 March 1933 – 11 December 1985) With Flag

Fifty-three year old Mark Gloff, of 1802 Hewett St., died suddenly Wednesday, April9, at his home in Neillsville.

Mr. Gloff was born March 12, 1933, at Albion, Michigan, a son of Karl and Clara (Ramm) Gloff. After his education in Milwaukee, he worked for American Motors Corp. On March 5, 1963, he entered the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge on March 4, 1955, he returned to Milwaukee and a position with AMC. In 1960, he relocated to Neillsville and remained here for the rest of his life.

Survivors include his mother, Clara of Neillsville; three sisters, Mrs. Arnis (Rachel) Williams of Mid-City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Frank (Vivian) Mollan and Mrs. Tom (Agnes) Peras, both of Milwaukee, and Cyrus of Neillsville. He was predeceased by his father.

Rev. Lloyd Hohn, of Assembly of God Church, conducted services Saturday, April 12, at Gesche Funeral Home. Mary Hohn provided musical accompaniment. Burial was in Neillsville City Cemetery with friends and relatives serving as pallbearers.

Kuenkel, Marie E. (14 December 1898 – 4 April 1986)

Neillsville resident Marie E. Kuenkel, 87, of 201 E. 9th St., died Friday, April 4, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. She had been ill for a brief time.

Mrs. Kuenkel was born December 14, 1898, at Waterloo, Iowa, a daughter of Edward P. and Martha A. (North) McCune. She was educated in Iowa and at Worchel School, in the Town of Seif. On October 8, 1919, she married Oscar E. Kuenkel at the Town of Hendren. The couple farmed there for many years. Her husband predeceased her on September 12, 1964. Mrs. Kuenkel continued to live on the farm until 1967, when she moved to Neillsville. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid and the Neillsville Gray Ladies.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Art (Irene) Zerbel, Humbird, and Mrs. Tony (Ruth) Ulesich, Neillsville, two sisters, Mrs. Buelah Pickett, Verona, and Mrs. Mayme Baldwin, Richland Center; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Roger, a sister, Edna; and three brothers, Frank, Art and Harold.

Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and rites were held Tuesday, April 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe. Rev. Paul Reede officiated with Mrs. Bunny Dux and Karen Hoppa, provided music. Burial was made in the church cemetery, at Globe. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Poehnlein, Harold Thoma, Robert Ladd, Leo Henchen, Robert Heidemann and Norman Poppe.

Olson, Gertrude L. (22 September 1913 – 12 April 1986)

Seventy-two year old Ge4rtrude Olson died Saturday, April 12, at Black River Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 22, 1913, in Longwood, she married Ernest Olson on June 22, 1968. The couple lived in the Humbird area. She was predeceased by her husband on April 3, 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Rosemary) Kluver of Rockford, Illinois, and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Schoengarth, Neillsville; a sister, Clara Rahn of Owen; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Rev. Michael Main will conduct funeral services Wednesday, April 8, 2;30 p.m., at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, rural Hixton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Jensen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Perko, Elsie (25 March 1923 – 3 April 1986)

Mrs. Ed (Elsie) Perko, of Rt. 1 Willard, Town of Seif, died April 3, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

The former Elsie Zager was born March 25, 1923, in Willard, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Galvin) Zager. She attended Willard schools and graduated from Greenwood High School. After attending nursing school in Minnesota, she worked as a practical nurse in Marshfield and Minneapolis. On November 15, 1947, she married Ed Perko in Willard. They operated Perko’s Store there for 27 years.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Ed, Jr. of Willard and James of Eau Claire; a sister, Mrs. Matt (Ann) Merlak of Loyal; and two brothers, Peter of Neillsville and Robert of Mankato, Mn. She was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.

Services were held Monday, April 7, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, with the Rev. James Lesczynski officiating. Burial was in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Parkel, Robert Debevec, Clarence Wegner, Frank Trybula, John Verschay and Fritz Latho. Rinka Funeral Home of Greenwood was in charge of arrangements.

Rupnick, Jack E. (15 January 1933 – 12 April 1986) With Flag

Rural Neillsville resident, Jack Rupnick, 53, died Saturday, April 12, at the Madison Veterans Administration Hospital, following a lingering illness.

Mr. Rupnick was born January 15, 1933, at Clinton, Indiana, a son of John and Kathleen (Jackson) Rupnick. Educated in Merrillan, he did farm work in that area until entering the military service in September 1950. Serving in Korea, he earned many medals including the Purple Heart before his discharge on February 19, 1953.

On May 26, 1956, he married Arlene a. Otto at Foster. They resided in Rockford, Illinois, where he was employed for sixteen years doing factory work. Moving back to the Humbird area, he worked at various jobs. During the past four years, he had lived in the Town of Pine Valley, Rt. 1 Neillsville.

Surviving besides his wife are eight children, Ricki of Eugene, Oregon, Rodney of Black River Falls, Randy, Russell, Roland, Ross, Byan, and Reed, are all at home; his father of Clarkston, Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Judith) Hullet, Alma Center, and Charlotte Kendall, Racine; four brothers, Ronald of Asotin, Washington, Darrell of Rosedale, Indiana, Dale of Arpin, and Brian, Milwaukee; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Rev. Paul Forde will officiate during rites held Thursday, April 17, 1:30 p.m., at Gesche Funeral Home. Iris Musil will be the accompanist. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until time of services Sons will served as pallbearers and interment will be in Neillsville City Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be presented by Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73, Neillsville.

Smith, Raymond (14 March 1898 – 1 April 1986)

Eighty-eight year old Raymond Smith died Tuesday, April 1, in Florida. He and his wife lived at 515 Sunrise Drive, Orlando, Florida.

He was born March 14, 1898, at Cudahy. Hardee Buckler became his first wife. The couple had lived in Milwaukee, where he was employed by Faulk Corporation. She passed away July 25, 1958. Later he married Anna Kuge, and the couple made their home in Florida.

Surviving besides his wife, Anna, are two brothers and a sister.

Fr. Joseph Henseler officiated at services for Mr. Smith held at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton, on Saturday, April 5. Interment was in Windfall Cemetery.

Thwing, Flossie (12 September 1900 – 8 April 1986)

Mrs. David (Flosie) Thwing, 85, of Neillsville Memorial Home and formerly of Greenwood died Tuesday, April 8, at Memorial Home where she had resided the past ten years.

The former Flossie Williams was born September 12, 1900, in Chili, the daughter of Jesse and Mary Jane (McHone) Williams. She received her education in North Dakota schools and married David Thwing on November 20, 1922. They moved to the Greenwood area in 1939. Her husband died in 1969 and she continued to live in Greenwood until entering the home. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are two children, a son, Jesse of Waconia, MN., and daughter, Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Miles, of Safety Harbor, Florida; three grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and ten brothers and sisters.

Services were held Friday, April 11, at the Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Saletri officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home of Greenwood was in charge of arrangements.

Services were held Tuesday, April 15, at Burnham Funeral Home, Chetek, for Mrs. George (Elsie) Wolff, who passed away on April 12. Rev. Howard Ott conducted graveside rites at Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Wolff was born May 13, 1901, to Arlo and Elsie (Vine) Huckstead, in the Town of Grant.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Jane) Roux, and four grandchildren of Anoka, Minnesota; a great-grandson; and three nieces, Mrs. Virginia Gassen, Mrs. Edith Kunze and Mrs. Ruth Holman.
