Johnson, Miriam M. (Kilty) (28 DEC 1940 - 22 DEC 2015)
Miriam M. Johnson, age 74, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at
Aspirus Medford Hospital.
Miriam was born on December 28, 1940, the daughter of Melvin and Mayme (Bandow)
Kilty in Marshfield. She graduated from Colby High School and from UW-Stevens
Point with a teaching degree. Miriam was united in marriage to Harley Johnson on
June 27, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. He preceded her in death on
Sept. 15, 2015. She taught third grade in Colby for 40 years, retiring in 2003.
Miriam will be remembered by all her students, especially for playing the piano
and reading “Charlotte’s Web.” She also considered all of her students the
children she never had.
Miriam is survived by her brother, Merlin Kilty of Owen; nieces and nephews,
Debbie (Ron) Johnson of Batesville, Ind., Mike (Cheryl) Kilty of Abbotsford,
Patrick (Debbie) Kilty of Colby, Mark (Bev) Kilty of Colby and Connie (Ken) Ven
Rooy of Colby; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harley.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at First
United Church of Christ in Colby. Pastor Teri Hanson presided. Inurnment
followed at Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends were welcomed from 9
a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby assisted the family with
arrangements.
