Canfield, Raymond Pat (16 December 1917 – 11 October 1992) With Flag
Raymond Pat Canfield, 74, of Clam Lake, died after a heart attack at Humana
Hospital, Phoenix, AZ, on Sunday, October 11, 1992.
He was born in the Town of York, Clark County, to Raymond D. and Elsie
(Buddinger) Canfield on December 16, 1917. He grew up in Granton, and after his
education, he spent one year in the CCC’s. He married Dorena Steffen of
Marshfield, October 28, 1938, in Waukegan, IL. He worked as chauffeur at Stewart
& Warner, Chicago, IL, after which he purchased a cabin on Upper Clam Lake, in
1940.
During summers he planted trees for the Hayward District and winters he worked
in the woods; at which time he entered the U.S. Navy. After his WWII service, he
returned to the Clam Lake area and worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a heavy
equipment engineer. He also worked on bridges in Michigan and Minnesota. After
28 years he retired.
He was a member of the Prosser, Curtis, Kubley Post American Legion, Glidden,
and the Clam Lake Community Club, and was instrumental in the brining of
electricity and telephone communications to the Clam Lake area.
He is survived by his wife, Hemet, CA; one son, Pat Jr., Oconto Falls and Clam
Lake, two daughters, Ryen McCleskey, (Clint), Hemet, CA, and Dorie Wentz (Ed)
Sun City, CA; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; and one half-sister,
Ruth Searls, Granton.
He was preceded by his parents, step-parents and one brother, Alvin. A private
family service was held at Green Acres Chapel, Phoenix, AZ.
He had willed his body for medical research.

Gilbertson, Clarence L. “Doc” (20 June 1926 – 29 January 1993) With Flag
Clarence L. “Doc” Gilbertson, 66, 2317 Walworth Ave., died Friday, January 29,
1993, in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on June 20, 1926,
in Black River Falls, the son of Irwin and Gertrude Gilbertson. Moved to
Rockford in 1950 from Granton. Had married Joyce VerHagen in Chili, June 19,
1948. Very devoted to his wife and family. A Veteran of World War II, serving in
U.S. Army in northern France. Was employed at Estwing Manufacturing Co., 38
years retiring in 1988. Also delivered flowers for his son with Gilbertson
Flowers in 1992. Was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Joyce, Rockford; two sons, Ron and Tom (Diana),
Rockford; daughter Beverly Jacobson, Rockford; special son, Jim Reece;
daughter-in-law, Suzanne Gilbertson, Loves Park; seven grandchildren; two
sisters, Jane Ashbeck, Greenwood, and Betty (Jerry) Marg, Granton;
sister-in-law, Dorothy Gilbertson, Granton; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives
and friends. Predeceased by son, Don “Midge” in 1988; parents, and brother
Erwin.
Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in St. Edward Catholic Church, with the Rev.
James J. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation
from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 3910 N.
Rockton Ave., with wake service at 6 p.m.; also, visitation 10 a.m. to time of
services Tuesday at the church.

Gliddon, Edward (6 April 1915 – 25 January 1993)
Edward Gliddon, 77, rural Humbird, died on Monday, January 25, at St. Joseph’s
Hospital, in Marshfield.
He was born on April 6, 1915, in Burlington, Illinoi, to parents Thomas and
Marie (Factly) Gliddon. He married Velma Rachuy on June 11, 1937, in Sycamore,
IL, and she preceded him in death on August 11, 1983. He was employed in
construction and road maintenance in Illinois and, upon moving to Wisconsin,
farmed in the Humbird area for many years.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Patricia Glidden of Humbird. Besides his
wife, Velma, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas on January 22, 1993.
Funeral services for Edward Gliddon were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January
28, at the Jensen Funeral Home, Hixton, with Rev. Timothy Diemer officiating.
Burial took place in the Town of Mentor Cemetery, rural Humbird. Friends called
at the Jensen Funeral Home on Thursday one hour prior to the services. Casket
bearers were Emmanuel D’Huyvetter, Pascal D’Huyvetter, Nathan Jakel and Jeff
West.

Glidden, Thomas O. (27 July 1942 – 22 January 1993)
Thomas O. Gliddon, 50, rural Humbird, died on Friday, January 22, at Black River
Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls.
He was born on July 27, 1942, in Elgin, IL, to parents Edward and Velma (Rachuy)
Gliddon. He was a dairy farmer for the past 22 years, farming in Mentor
Township. Prior to that, he worked in Illinois, in construction. He enjoyed the
study of meteorology, keeping a log of local weather conditions on a daily
basis.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Gliddon of Humbird, his mother, Velma
preceded him in death on August 11, 1983. His father, Edward, died on Monday
evening, January 25, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services for Thomas O. Gliddon were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January
25, at the Jensen Funeral Home, Hixton, with Rev. Thomas Burek officiating.
Burial took place in Town of Mentor Cemetery, rural Humbird. Friends called at
the Jensen Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and one hour
prior to services on Monday. Casket bearers were Robert Bell, Fred Theiler,
Pascal D’Huyvetter, Virgil Jinkerson, Jeff West and Don Zerbel.

Grap, Frederick L., Sr. “Fritz” (13 November 1903 – 21 January 1993)
Services for Frederick L. “Fritz” Brap, Sr., 89, Neillsville, who died at 5:12
a.m. Thursday, January 21, 1993, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, were held
at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe. The Rev.
Paul Reede officiated. Karen Hoppa was the accompanist for congregational
singing. Burial was in Neillsville City Cemetery, and grandsons served as
pallbearers. Visitation was at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, from 6-9 p.m.
Friday, January 22, and then at the church one hour prior to service time
Friday.
Frederick Grap was born November 13, 1903, in the Town of Weston, Clark County,
to Johann F. and Martha E. (Kalsow) Grap. He was educated in the Town of Weston
and took German instructions at Immanuel Lutheran School, Globe. He married
Lucille Butler, October 9, 1932, in Neillsville.
He farmed on the family farm in the Town of Weston all of his life. He did
custom thrashing for many neighbors and also in the Willard and Humbird areas
for many years. He was a patrolman for the Town of Weston for several years. He
was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Ronald of Chino, CA., and Fred, Jr. of
Neillsville; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (JoAnn) Ruzic of Neillsville, Mrs.
Clarence (June) Huettenrauch of Milwaukee and Mrs. Daniel (Susan) Schwark of
Willard; one brother, Carl of Milwaukee; 21 grandchildren and 19 great
grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, one son, Lewis, four brothers
and seven grandchildren.

Johnson, Grant O. (9 March 1895 – 11 January 1993)
Services for Grant O. Johnson, 97, who died at 7:45 a.m. Monday at Bethel
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Arpin, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at
Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton. Visitation was from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the
funeral home. The Rev. Thomas LaChappelle officiated. Music was provided by
Jeanette Steiner. Burial was in Windfall Cemetery, Granton, and grandsons served
as pallbearers.
Grant Johnson was born March 9, 1895, in the Town of Grant, Clark County, to the
late Ferdinand and Ida (Moh) Johnson. He was educated in the Town of Grant. He
married Nora Murphy, March 11, 1917, in Neillsville, and she died May 16, 1980.
After his education, he farmed in the Town of Fremont. He continued until he
moved to live with his daughter in 1982. He resided with his daughter for five
years and then became a resident of the Nursing Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marian Elmhorst, of Marshfield; one sister,
Mrs. Dora Simon of Waukesha; one brother, Alfred Johnson of Ladysmith; eight
grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by one son,
William, one daughter, Elaine Anderegg, four brothers and one sister.

Lautenbach, Robert A. (9 September 1913 – 14 January 1993)
Robert A. Lautenbach, 79, of 404 E. 14th St., died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday January
14, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born September 9, 1913, in the Town of Grant, Clark County, to August and
Othelia (Lautenbach) Lautenbach. He attended Granton Elementary School and was a
1933 graduate of Granton High School. He married Aneta J. Zinell October 16,
1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Neillsville.
After his education, he worked in the Granton area until he entered military
service during World War II. He then returned to this area and worked on the
section crew for the Chicago and North Western Railroad for several years. He
later worked for Blum Box Factory for two years and then Weyerhaeuser Co., for
16 years until his retiring in 1975. He had been in ill health for the past
three years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Rodney R., of Muskego; one daughter, Mrs.
David (Glenda J.) Henning of Marshfield; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Edna) Wikum
of Edgerton and Mrs. Anna Goodrich of Janesville; and five grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Theodore, Mertin, Arlo and Harry, and
four sisters, Margaret Seif, Nelda Garbisch, Anita Lautenbach and Elsie Jahnke.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, at Hansen Funeral Home with the
Revs. John Schenck and Gary Albert of Immanuel Lutheran Church who officiated.
Juliann Baxter served as organist, and Gary Mauritz was the soloist. Burial was
in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was from noon until service time
Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be designated to the Bell Tower Memorial Fund of Immanuel Lutheran
Church.

Richard R. “Rick” Oestreich, 27, of 1407 Peach Avenue, died at 8:13 a.m.
Wednesday, January 27, 1993, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had been in ill health
with cystic fibrosis since birth and had been admitted to the hospital January
15.
Richard Oestreich was born April 4, 1965, in Marshfield, the son of Richard
“Dick” Oestreich and Mickey Hansen, both of Marshfield. He attended Immanuel
Lutheran, Washington Elementary and Lincoln Elementary schools and Marshfield
Junior High School. He was a 1983 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and
1990 graduate of Mid-State Technical College accounting assistant program. He
married Tammy R. Simm August 24, 1991, at St. John’s Catholic Church.
He had been employed at Yellow River Speedway, now called Marshfield Super
Speedway. He was later employed by Domino’s Pizza and had last been employed at
Weinbrenner Shoe Outlet Store. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents, he is also survived by his wife; two sons, Jesse and
Jordan, both at home; one brother, Don of Marshfield; one sister, Tammy
Oestreich of Marshfield; one half-sister, Tonya Oestreich of Marshfield; his
maternal grandmother, Mattie Hansen of Neillsville; and his paternal
grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Graffunder of Marshfield. He was predeceased
by his maternal grandfather, William “Bill” Hansen.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church
with the Revs. John W. Schenck and Gary M. Albert officiating. Mrs. Juliann
Baxter was the organist and soloist. Burial was made in Hillside Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel from 7-9 Thursday, and again
Friday until 9 a.m. and then at the church from 10 a.m. until service time
Friday. The pallbearers were George Heinzen, Thomas Holland, Dave and Donald
Oestreich, Brian Klimmer, Paul Simm, Denis Hansen and Chris Langreck. Honorary
pallbearers were Jess Simm, Jeffrey Borstad and Jesse Bohman.

Margaret Quinlan, 101, of 216 Sunset Place, Neillsville, WI died at the
Neillsville Memorial Home on January 16, 1993, at 3:50 a.m.
Margaret was born November 30, 1891, at Rockford to Orin and Louise (Sealy)
Rugg. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. James (Virginia) Lamb of Beloit, WI,
and her sister, Mrs. Laura Peacock of Rockford, Illinois, as well as three
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was educated at Rockford. Following her education she worked for Keith
School at Rockford, IL. She then worked for Woodward Governor at Rockford until
her retirement at age 70. Margaret was a member of the Unitarian Church and the
Quota Club, both of Rockford.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church at Rockford, IL, on
Friday January 22, 1993, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place prior to the
service at the Greenwood Cemetery at Rockford, IL. Gesche Funeral Home, Inc.
Neillsville is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials to the Unitarian Church are requested in lieu of flowers.

Schlinsog, Wilbur A. (28 August 1914 – 13 January 1993)
Wilbur A. Schlinsog, 78 of 1307 E. Eighth St., died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday,
January 12, 1993, at the Marshfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he
had been admitted January 5.
He was born August 28, 1914, in Granton, to August and Martha (Schlinsog)
Schlinsog. He attended Roder School, rural Granton, After his education, he
helped on his parents’ farm. He married Natalia Gerber at the parsonage of Zion
American Lutheran Church, Granton.
After his marriage, he and his wife farmed in Granton and Chili until 1942. They
then moved to Spencer and farmed there until 1945. They later moved to
Marshfield and farmed there from 1945-62. He was also employed by Roddis Plywood
Corp., later Weyerhaeuser Co., for 33 years as a finisher in the door department
until retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the United Brotherhood of
Carpenters and Joiners of America, Loal Union 1733.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. David (Marlene) Richter of
Minneapolis, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased
by his parents and by one brother, Emil, who died in December 1990.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, at Faith Lutheran Church
with the Rev. Gary Hedding officiating. William Allen was the soloist, and
Maldon Plank was the organist. Burial was in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bradley and Scott Richter, Clarence Krause, Bob Dudley, Darwin
Schlinsog and Donald Deering. Honorary pallbearers were Leo Schueller, Arnold
Krueger, Clyde Reeths, Arnold Panzer, Donald Williams, Lester Hoefs, Robert
Moesenthin and Gerald Barwineck. Visitation was at Hansen Funeral Home from 4-8
p.m. Friday and then at the church after 10 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be designated to the family as they will establish a memorial at a
later date.

Colby native Arthur M. Schraufnagel, 71, Holiday, Fl., died at 4:35 a.m.
Wednesday in New Port Richey, FL. Services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday, January
9, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Holiday.
Committal services were held at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, at 11 a.m.
Monday with the Rev. Joseph N. Henseler who officiated. Private burial in St.
Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Neillsville, will take place later. Visitation was
from 9-11 a.m. Monday, January 11, at the funeral home in Neillsville.
Art was born September 20, 1921, in Colby, to the late Frank and Lena
(Schilling) Schraufnagel. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married
Mildred Bolini 46 years ago. He was an area manager for Tri-State Breeders of
Baraboo. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of
Columbus of Holiday and the Neillsville Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Linda Nesser of Missoula, MT.,
Gloria Anderson of Medford, OR., Annette Tesmer of Tampa, FL., and Patricia
Cicirello of New Port Richey; one brother, Cletus of Colby and six
grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents, one brother, Jamie at home, paternal

Services for Jennie L. Lovik-Winkel, 58, Loyal, who died at 12:03 a.m. Friday,
January 15, 1993, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, was held at 11 a.m.
Monday, January 18, at Zion Missouri Lutheran Church, Granton, with the Rev.
Herbert Biermann officiating. Visitation was at Hansen Funeral Home, Marshfield,
from 5-9 p.m. Sunday and then at the church after 10 a.m. Monday. Burial was
made in Yolo Cemetery, Chili. Pallbearers were Harley Loos, Gale Lonning, Arnold

She was born November 14, 1934, at Kanawha, IA., to Frank and Laura (Beer)
Maynard. She received her education at Kanawha. She was married to Duane Lovik,
November 14, 1952, at the Methodist Church, Kanawha. He died April 1, 1984. She
was then married to David Winkel, who survives, April 22, 1989, at Zion American
Lutheran Church, Granton.
After her first marriage, they farmed in Ventura, IA., until 1966 when they
moved to Chili where they farmed, and Mr. Lovik was a welder. She was employed
at Artcraft Homes, Spencer, for 15 years, she then attended Mid-State Technical
College and received a certificate as a unit clerk in 1982 and a medical
assistant in 1983. She was employed by St. Joseph’s Hospital for a short while
and then by Figi’s Inc., for eight years. For the last 6 months she was a
cashier at Kwik-Trio, Loyal.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Chili, and its Ladies Aid. She also
taught Sunday school and was active in arts and crafts. She was financial
secretary for the union at Artcraft Homes.
She is survived by her mother; husband; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Diane) Lutz
of Wausau, Mrs. Jim (Jane) Lato of Mosinee, Mrs. David (Joleen) Theisen of

Antonio, TX; two stepsons, Mike and Brian Winkel, both of Marshfield; one
sister, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Barloon of Forest City, IA; two brothers, Raymond
Maynard of Bloomington, MN, and Jimmy Maynard of Ettrick; one stepsister, Phylis
Young of Ottawa; IL; nine grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and four
step-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her father; one son,
Dwight Swen Lovik, May 12, 1966; and one step-son, Richard Winkel.

Wolf, Josephine M. (17 February 1918 – 7 January 1993)
Services for Mrs. Josephine M. Wolf, 74, Chili, who died at 2:13 p.m. Thursday,
January 7, 1993, in St. Joseph’s Hospital emergency Room, were held at 11 a.m.
Monday at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Chili. The Rev. Charles P. Schumacher
officiated. Helene Brinkmann, organist, served as accompanist for John F.
Binder, soloist. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Visitation
was from 4-8 p.m., Sunday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Chapel, Marshfield, and
from 10 a.m., until time of services at the church Monday. St. Stephen’s Rosary
Service combined with St. Stephen’s Parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary
Service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Josephine Wolf was born February 17, 1918, in Colby, to Frederick J. and Mary
(Miller) Weidman, Sr. She married Mathias F. “Matt” Wolf June 17, 1837, at St.
John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield. He died on August 30, 1982.
She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School in Marshfield. After their marriage,
the Wolfs resided in Marshfield for 11 years. In 1948, they moved to the Town of
Lynn, Clark County, where they farmed until 1970. Then they moved to Chili, and
she became employed at Johnson Garment Co., in Marshfield until retiring in
1983. She continued to reside in Chili. She was a member of St. Stephen’s
Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. George (Theresa) Soltow, of Colby, Mrs.
Norbert (Lois) Bednarck and Alice Winkel both of Oshkosh; three sons, Ralph, of
Oshkosh, Richard of Pickett, and Stephen of Chili; one brother, Frederick
Weidman Jr. of Abbotsford; two sisters, Julie Nobel, of Milwaukee, and Agnes
Frey, of Marshfield; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Mathias G. Wolf, Jr., on
March 15, 1962, her parents; one great grandson; and one great granddaughter.

Zuehlke, George, Sr. (11 November 1898 – 19 January 1993)
Services for George Zuehlke, Sr., 94, rural Loyal, who died at 11:12 a.m.
Tuesday, January 19, 1993, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, were held at 2
p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Robert Olson of
Spencer officiated. Burial was in Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Vincent
Lindner, Erlin Roehl, Vern Dahlby, Dennis Larson, John Weyer and Leonard Rueth.
Honorary pallbearers were Garth Luchterhand, Alfred Meyer, Verland Dux, Leon
Hoeser and Charles Kramer. Visitation was held at Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal from
4-9 p.m. today and then at the church from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday.
George Zuehlke, Sr. was born November 11, 1898, in Golden Lake, to Ferdinand and
Wilhelmina (Lange) Zuehlke. He attended a parochial school in Golden Lake. He
married Regina Ziehlsdorf April 29, 1925, in Spencer. They celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary in 1975, and their 65th anniversary in 1990.
He bought a farm in the Town of Loyal in 1924. After his marriage, he and his
wife farmed there until 1976. They retired from farming at that time, but
continued to live on the home farm. He was the chairman of the Town of Loyal and
a member of Clark County Board for 37 years. He was also a member of the Clark
County Fair Board and worked for ASCS of Clark County and their committee. He
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as chairman of the church
council and was an elder and trustee.
He is survived by his wife, one son George, Jr. of Loyal, seven grandchildren
and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, one daughter,
Audrey, who died February 26, 1987, and by four brothers and five sisters.
