Food Pantry Honors Volunteer For Service (2023)

nine years of volunteer service at the Clark County Area Food Pantry and
Resource Center.
By June Thompson
During the holidays, the Clark County Area Food Pantry and Resource Center in
Neillsville receives food and monetary donations to help community members in
need. Volunteers dedicate their time and energy to help organize the food
donations.
One volunteer, JoAnne Campitelle of Neillsville, has been helping at the food
pantry and resource center since the pantry first opened nine years ago. She was
honored for her service with a plaque Dec. 19.
“I’m the only one left from the original group of volunteers,” Campitelle said.
Campitelle’s service to community began many years ago when she served in the US
Navy.
“I’ve been in service all my life,” Campitelle said It’s in my genes. My
family’s that way, too. I raised my kids to be the same way.”
Campitelle helps members of the community when they come to the food pantry.
“People come in here that I’ve known for years and years,” Campitelle said. “I
love helping people.”
Campitelle, along with other volunteers, checks the freezer temperatures,
straightens shelves, stocks items, puts food away and takes people through the
pantry.
“We take care of them,” said Campitelle. “We don’t turn anyone away. We get 20
to 30 families a week. People are so appreciative of what we do for them.”
Donations to the food pantry are needed year-round, but especially around
holidays.
“I love the time of the Super Bowl,” said Campitelle. “We get a lot of soup
then.”
Donations also come from people anonymously.
“We call them secret angels,” said Campitelle.
Food donations are not the only items needed at the pantry.
“We need personal products,” said Campitelle. “such as deodorant, feminine
products and toothpaste are always needed.”
People and businesses are encouraged to give food or monetary donations.
Gross Motors recently had a food drive to stock the Clark County Area Food
Pantry.
“[Gross Motors] donated $1,991 in food as of Dec. 19,” said Judy Morrow,
director of the Clark County Food Pantry and Resource Center.
“[The volunteers] check dates, weigh the food and organize it,” said Morrow.
“People come and take what they need.”
The food pantry has several freezers and a refrigerator to store perishable
food.
“We need meat,” said Morrow. “Any kind of meat.”
Other donations come from local businesses: Kwik Trip, Hansen’s IGA and Cummins.
“The mission of the Clark County Area Food Pantry and Resource Center is to
relieve hunger and increase self-sufficiency of our neighbors in need” is posted
inside the food pantry.
