Louis Janda, publisher of the Abbotsford-Colby Tribune-Phonograph and
Edgar-Athens Record-Review, has announced the sale of the two newspapers and
commercial printing business to J. A. O’Leary of Savanna, IL. Mr. and Mrs.
O’Leary assumed operation of the business Monday morning.
The O’Leary’s were former publishers of the Savanna, IL Times-Journal, a
semi-weekly newspaper and the Northwestern Illinois dispatch, a shopping guide
located in that Illinois city.
The O’Leary’s, along with their three children, Kimberly, 7, Jeff, 6, and
Kristine, 2, will soon be making their home in the Abbotsford-Colby area.
No immediate changes are planned in the operation of the newspapers, though some
changes might be made in the future.
O’Leary emphasizes his desire to produce the same high quality of local news
coverage that has been provided by the Janda’s. Mr. O’Leary will assume
editorial duties at the Abbotsford Tribune office while O’Leary will be at the
Colby Phonograph office.
“I hope to get around the area and meet as many people as I can as soon as
possible,” O’Leary said.
“We know that we will be making a few mistakes and missing some local stories
until we become better acquainted with the area,” O’Leary stated, “I hope that
you will all forgive our oversights to begin with.”
