Navy Lieutenant Roger B. Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron F. Olson of Route 2,
Colby, completed his two weeks of active duty training with Naval Air Reserve
Helicopter Squadron HS-9E2 at the Naval Air Station, Dallas, Texas.
The squadron is normally based at Naval Air Station Twin Cities in Minneapolis,
and was deployed to Dallas for an intensive training program to advance its
mobilization capability. Although HS-9E2 is primarily an anti-submarine warfare
squadron, training at Dallas included search and rescue missions, as well as
submarine hunting.
A unit of the nationwide Naval Air Reserve Froce, his squadron maintains a vital
position in our national defense by training one weekend a month at their home
base and deploying once a year for two weeks.
