Gordee, Stella (28 October 1896 - 20 May 1974)
Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) morning at 11 a.m. from Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, for Mrs. Harry Gordee, 77, of Greenwood,
who died Monday afternoon at the Marshfield Convalescent Center. The Rev. David
Wenger will officiate and burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation was to begin Wednesday afternoon at the hill Funeral Home, Greenwood.
After 9 a.m. today (Thursday) the body was to lie in state at the church.
Mrs. Gordee, the former Stella Hium, was born October 28, 1896, at West Prairie
to Herman and Emma (Anderson) Hium. Her marriage to Harry Gordee took place in
Greenwood February 26, 1920. The couple farmed in the Greenwood area until 1956,
when they retired and moved to the city. Mr. Gordee preceded his wife in death
on September 19, 1966. Mrs. Gordee was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
and of its ALCA society, and of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Melvin (Beulah) Alperstett of Greenwood, Mrs.
Wayne (Verla) Rear, and Mrs. Raymond (Agnes) Biernat of Milwaukee and Miss Avis
Gordee of Greenwood; three sons, Calvin and Earl Gordee of Marshfield and
Everett Gordee of Milwaukee; and 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
