Fransway, John Raphael (23 April 1943 - 30 January 2016) With Flag
John Raphael Fransway, 72, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Sacred Heart
Hospital in Eau Claire with family at his side.
He was born April 23, 1943, in Chippewa, WI, the son of Raphael and Justina
(Augustine) Fransway. He attended Chippewa area schools. John enlisted into the
United States Navy and served on the USS Forrestal (CV-59) earning the National
Defense Service medal. After his time in the service, John lived and worked in
California and later moved back to Chippewa where he worked at Nelson Filter and
then W. S. Darley until his retirement. John loved spending time with his family
and friends. He enjoyed trapping, fishing, boating, riding ATV’s, cooking,
working in his shop and, as of late, playing computer games.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Frye; daughters: Alison Fransway (Craig
Helland), Michelle (JJ) Lee, Tammy (Bill) Rice, a son, Jeremy “Boz” (Andie)
Staniec, and step-children: Arnold, Laura, Amy; his siblings: Barb (Lee)
Greening, Tom Fransway, Dianne (Steve) Comerford, Dan (Barb) Fransway;
sisters-in-law: Gloria (Bill) Knar, Sharon Wiand; Brothers-in-law: Dan (Cheryl)
Ciokiewicz, Randy (Karen) Ciokiewicz, and Tim Ciokiewicz; grandchildren: Trent,
Austin, Even, Brandon, Logan, Brooklyn, Brianna; and his beloved dog, Lizzy.
He is predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law, Betty Ciokiewicz;
brothers-in-law: Lee Greening and Steve Comerford.
A celebration of life will be held at the VFW Post #1038, Friday, February 12,
2016, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
the VFW Post #1038, P.O. Box 685, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729, where he was proudly
a member for many years.
