Gehrig, Ronald Harold (27 APR 1937 - 10 FEB 2016)
Ronald Harold Gehrig, age 78, a longtime resident of rural Janesville, passed
away unexpectedly early Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at his home.
He was born April 27, 1937 in Medford, the son of the late Herbert and Chrystal
(Harden) Gehrig.
Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, who served as a coreman in the Pacific. Ron
earned his Bachelor of Science from UW-Stevens Point, and his Master of Science
from UW-Stout. Ron owned a vocational rehabilitation company, People Power
Rehabilitation Services, for many years until his retirement.
He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his later
years on his farm where he raised bees and kept horses and other animals. He
volunteered and served on the board of SMILES, which provides therapeutic
horseback riding in Darien. He also volunteered at Agrace Hospice Care and with
the Rock County Nutritional Program, delivering meals to homebound people. He
worked as a historical interpreter at Old World Wisconsin in Eagle.
He is survived by his life partner for 22 years, Wendy King, his two sons,
Jeffrey (Stefanie) Gehrig, of Highland Park, Ill., and Gregory (Alice Brandon)
Gehrig, of Chicago, Ill., his two "step-children", Robyn King and Alex King, his
twin brother, Raymond (Audrey) Gehrig, of Janesville, his two beloved
grandchildren, Irene and Evelyn Gehrig, both of Highland Park, Ill., and by
other family and friends who all loved him and will miss him.
A celebration of Ron's life and sharing of memories was held at 3 p.m. on
Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at the Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home & Cremation Services,
where friends could call from 1 until 3 p.m.
