Madison – Carol M. Syth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Syth, Greenwood, R. 1
(Clark Co., Wis.), was among 347 Wisconsin high school girls attending the 15th
annual Bader Girls' State held on the University of Wisconsin campus during the
week of June 18 to 25.
Sponsored by the Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary and the U.W. Extension
Divisions Bureau of Government, the Badger Girls' State program, designed to
acquaint the girls with the functions of municipal, county and state government,
and to initiate them into the duties of citizenship, is one of the many
education public services held throughout the year on the State University
campus for all citizens.
Selected by the faculty of their high schools, the girls attending the weeklong
conference nominate and elect their own city, county, and state officials.
Included on the program are discussions of the form of government, why we have
political parties, who decides what state government does, the legal status of
women and many other aspects of citizenship and government.
Carol was elected City Alderman at Badger State on June 20th.
