Kalin, Edris A. (21 September 1936 - 27 January 2016)
Edris A. Kalin, 79, died peacefully Jan. 27, 2016, at her daughter and
son-in-law’s home on St. Simons Island, GA.
Edris was born Sept. 21, 1936, in Milwaukee. She married Michael E. Kalin Sept
8, 1956, in Neillsville. A longtime resident of Lee Center, NY, Edris served as
organist and director of music for several churches, most notably the Chapel of
Griffiss Air Force Base and First Presbyterian Church, Rome, NY. She also taught
piano and organ lessons for many years, bringing the joy of music into countless
lives. Edris was an accomplished musician and an active and dedicated member of
First Presbyterian Church in Rome.
Edris is survived by her son, Robert Michael Kalin, and his wife, Fiona Kalin of
Wemyss Bay, Scotland; her daughter, Kathleen Ann Turner, and her husband, Roy
“Te” Turner of St. Simons, Island, GA; her sister, Diane Bowen, and her husband,
Robert Bowen of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren: Christopher Michael Turner, Arielle
Hope Kalin and Elyssa Rose Kalin; niece, Beth Bernhoft of Richfield; and nephew,
Dean Morbeck of Auckland, New Zealand.
Edris was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Edward Kalin; her parents,
George and Neta Haack; and her beloved dachshund, Kasper.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Christ Church Frederica,
St. Simons Island, and will also be held in June (date to be announced) at First
Presbyterian Church in Rome, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edris to First
Presbyterian Church, Rome, NY; Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA; or
St. Cecelia Music Series of Christ Church Frederica, St. Simons Island, GA.
