York Center (5 Dec 1918)

Merton Davis and Will Benedict, who had the job of skidding up about 10 acre of pole wood for Fred Zwick, finished their work just before the snow came. It is estimated that there will be about 200 cords and Forest and Jesse Rowe have taken the job of sawing it. They began the first of the week.

Mrs. E. Mortimer entertained the young people of the Sunday School on Thanksgiving Day.

R.E. Lawrence and family autoed to the Vine home in the town of Beaver on Thanksgiving Day. It was Roy’s first experience with an auto in the snow and it somewhat unnerved him.

Will Ayers has gone to Deer River, Minn., to cut and put in the timber on his land there. He may be gone all winter.

Will Benedict went on a land looking trip to the town of Beaver last Wednesday.

Emil Krause, Bert Hayden, Jesse Rowe, Dale and Amos Fulwiler composed a party for a shingling bee last Wednesday afternoon and shingled the east side of Walter Rowe’s house. It was done just in time to escape the snow storm that came the next day.

Grant Turner returned from Stratford Tuesday where he had gone to work for the R. Connor Co.

Isla Rowe spent Sunday with Nina and Lovone Bowman.

Ernest Rogers and family, who have been on the Joe Rondorf farm, have moved to Hannibal, Taylor County.

Mr. and Mrs. John Van de Berg and Horace Van de Berg and family ate Thanksgiving dinner with A. C. Van de Berg and family near Marshfield.

Violet Fulwiler visited her cousin, Verla Rowe, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Roy Lawrence was busy Monday building a chute to his silo. H.W. Huntley helped him.

George Turner did chores the past week for Guy Winn, while the later enjoyed a hunting trip.

Richard Free and Ed. Voigt spent a day or two hunting the past week.
