Root, Newman J. (Sick with Pneumonia – 18 SEP 1918)
County Clerk Ole Andersen received a postal card Monday from Newman Root at Fond
du Lac in which he stated that he had received his honorable discharge from the
army. The card is as follows:
Fond du Lac, Wis., Dec. 5, 1918
Mr. Ole Andersen,
Dear Sir: Will write to inform you that I have just arrived home from Camp Logan, Texas. At Camp Grant I was put in the 86th Div. and passed the examinations, and would have gone over with them, but on Friday, Sept. 18, I was taken to the hospital, sick with pneumonia, and the 86th left the next Monday. Oct. 31 I left Camp Grant and arrived at Camp Logan, Texas, Nov. 3. I remained at Camp Logan until Dec. 3, when I received a very honorable discharge. My last examination I was placed in Class 1-A. I am feeling fine. I enjoyed camp life and saw some country.
Sincerely, Newman J. Root
