Luther, Martin (Word of death – Dec 1918)
Word has been received in this city by Mrs. A.W. Priest and Mrs. H. M. Baker
from their brother, E.M. Stevens of Portland, Ore., of the death of his son,
Lieut. Orville A. Stevens, who was killed in action in France October 6.
Lieut. Stevens was born near Antigo and lived in this city a few years while a
boy. The family moved to Neillsville where the young man graduated from high
school. Soon after, the family moved to Oregon where the Lieutenant studied law
and was admitted to the bar. He was active in the Oregon National Guard. He
ranked as a second lieutenant when he left for overseas, but was soon promoted
to a first lieutenancy.
Word has been received here of the death of Martin Luther, husband of Louisa
Stevens, a sister of the officer mentioned above. Mrs. Luther visited in
Appleton with Mrs. Priest before her marriage and has several friends here. Her
husband had been in ill health for some time. – The Appleton, (Oregon) Daily
