Shields, Richard Wallington (6 SEP 1883 – 15 MAY 1959)

Richard Wallington Shields, son of Hiram and Carrie (Odgers) Shields, was born in the Town of Eaton, Clark County, Wisconsin on Sept. 6, 1883. He received his education in the local school and has lived here all his life. He never married.

He, with his brother Chester and sister Isadore, farmed for many years before moving to Greenwood, where for a time they operated a filling station.

Mr. Shields has been ill for several years following a stroke, and had been cared for at home until about six weeks ago, when he was taken to the Havenet Nursing Home at Owen.

He passed away at Owen early Friday morning, May 15, 1959.

Funeral services were held at the Hill Funeral Home on Monday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Mrs. Ethel Nulton, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service the Misses Joanne Peterson and Mary Syth sang "Sweet Home" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Olson at the organ.

The pallbearers were George Scherer Jr., Robert Vesel, Art Christie, Robert McConnell, Albert Mathison and John Syth.

Mr. Shields is survived by one sister, Miss Isadore Shields, and one brother, Chester, both of Greenwood, and four nieces in Dakota.

His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
