Klimeck, John H. Sr. (4 MAR 1922 - 3 MAR 2016)

John H. Klimeck Sr., age 93, of Aspirus Cedar Lane Apts., 135 Gibson, Medford, passed away on Thursday, March 3 at his residence in the City of Medford under the care of Hope Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 9 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, N5868 County Rd. C, Rib Lake, Township of Greenwood, with Rev. Joseph Dietrich, officiating.

Interment will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Township of Greenwood where there will be military rites performed by the Rib Lake American Legion Post #274.

Honorary pallbearer is Sara Polzin; Active: Grandsons Kyle Mannel II, Erik & Matthew Mannel, Jace, Jordan & Jerrell Klimeck, Mike Moore and James Denny, Jr.

Visitation will be at 4-7 PM Tuesday, March 8 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Town of Greenwood and from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 9.

John was born on March 4, 1922, in the Township of Deer Creek.

He attended Victory Elementary School, Town of Deer Creek.

On May 1, 1944, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville he married Ethel Bartelt. She preceded him in death December 5, 2005.

After his education, he worked as a cheesemaker. He entered the US Navy and served from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific. Following the military, he returned to the area and worked at the Medford Creamery, owned & operated a tavern in the Town of Browning for 5 years, and in 1961 purchased a farm in the Town of Rib Lake. While farming he also hauled cattle until selling the farm in 1976 when he went to work for Weather Shield until retirement in 1985. He served on the Lakewood Credit Union board for over 40 years. He enjoyed visiting with people, bowling, dancing, playing sheepshead, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Town of Greenwood where he had served as treasurer for 18 years; Rib Lake American Legion Post #274.

John is survived by a son, James Klimeck of Westboro, and a daughter, Penny (Kyle) Mannel of Fremont, WI; daughters-in-law, Sandy Klimeck of Wausau and Laura Deschler of Racine; 13 grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; 2 step great great grandchildren; 1 brother, George Klimeck of Florida.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Clara (Olsen) Klimeck; children, son John Klimeck, Jr. in 2001; daughter - Marjean Denny in 2012; son-in-law: James Denny, Sr. in 2010; siblings Edwin, Albert, Herman and Rueben Klimeck; Ida Lavin, Ruth Fischer and 2 in infancy.
