York Center (23 Jan 1919)

Walter Graves died last week Thursday morning after a long illness, of which he suffered intensely. He was born in England about 69 years ago, and came to America when a small boy, and at the age of 17 came to Wisconsin. He was a very industrious and ambitious man, following farming as his avocation, and made a success of it. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Rowe, of York, five sisters and two brothers. Friends from other places who were here to the funeral are Will Graves of Iowa, Will Gibson of Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Bennett of Oakfield, Charlie Mosher of Ohio, Mrs. J.H. Griffith of Oshkosh, Louis Root of Colfax. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church here last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Strevey and Rev. Mallory officiating.

Mrs. Carrie Anthony has been visiting in York for several days. She returned to her home near Madison the first of the week.

Alvin VandeBerg of Marshfield, Omer Deets of Beaver, Joe Bests of Loyal, Ira Leach and Webb Winn of Granton, Mr. Lastofka of Neillsville attended the sale here Saturday.

Dale Fulwiler visited at Marshfield last Thursday.

We are informed that Jesse Rowe has rented the C.M. Campbell farm.

Merton Davis, George Mortimer, Reinholt Voigt and Paul Wiernszenski were visitors at Marshfield last Wednesday.

Dist. Supt. Irish will occupy the pulpit in the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon.

Ernest Rowe and wife made a trip to Loyal last Friday.

A.P. Fulwiler and family spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vet Pease.

Lynn Morris of Neillsville was a visitor here last Friday.
