West Eaton (30 Jan 1919)
The party given in honor of Victor Bahl Saturday night was a success. Everyone
had a fine time and enjoyed listening to the thrilling adventures Victor had to
encounter while overseas. One cannot make it seem as bad as it was until someone
who knows tells the story. One thing Victor says he don’t care to talk about is
the awful battles. He was in some of the worst battles and was lucky enough to
go through without being wounded. He was gassed, however. He looks better than
he did before he went, but feels the effects of being gassed some yet. He says
he had a very exciting trip home as the sea was very rough and the boat sprang a
leak, but by hard work got it fixed, otherwise it would have sunk in mid-ocean.
Victor says he don’t care to cross the water again.
