Werner, Irene H. (Gehrig) (25 JAN 1917 - 4 DEC 2010)

Irene H. Werner, age 93, of Memorial Nursing & Rehab Center, Medford, passed away on December 4 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield where she had been a patient for the past 2 days, with her children by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 10 at The Community United Church of Christ, Medford, with Pastor Cathy Hinman officiating. Interment will be in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Peter Harrison, Virginia Harrison, Andrea Werner, Heather Havilyo, Jessica Wald, and Damian Stanton.

Visitation will be at the Hemer Funeral Home from 4-8 PM on Thursday, December 9 and also at church from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM on Friday, December 10.

Irene was born on January 25, 1917 at the township of Browning, Taylor Co., to Christ and Anna (Galler) Gehrig.

She attended Township of Browning elementary schools, and was a 1935 graduate of Medford High School.

Irene was married on June 30, 1938 at Rhinelander, WI, to Harold H. Werner. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2000.

She worked most of her life as a housewife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling and her grandchildren. She resided for 3 years at Country Gardens in Medford and for the past 1 ½ years she has resided in Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Medford and its Woman’s Guild; Township of Browning Homemakers Club; Chelsea Conservation Club.

She is survived by children, Jill (Jerry) Stanton, Menomonie and Jack (Hester) Werner of Menomonee Falls, WI; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.

Irene is predeceased by her parents, Christ and Anna (Galler) Gehrig; and 14 brothers & sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given in her name to The United Church of Christ, Medford.
