Johnson, Lyle (19 July 1909 - 23 May 1974)
Leslie Olaf Johnson, 64, of Greenwood, died may 23 at his home. The son of Olaf
and Mabel (Hendrickson) Johnson, he was born July 19, 1909, in Deer Park, Wa. He
lived He live in Washington until the age of seven, when he moved to Greenwood
with his parents, who settled on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of
Greenwood. He was married on June 27, 1940, at Colby to Irma Wiersig. She
survives him.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Bonnie) Wehrenberg
of Kenilworth, Il.; and Mrs. Michael (Diane) Engle of Tory, Oh,; and one son,
Wayne, of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Olaf Johnson of
Greenwood; a brother, Lawrence Johnson of Greenwood; and four sisters, Mrs.
Harold (Mae) Harding of Wausau; Mrs. Peter (Jane) Nichols of Chicago, Il.; Mrs.
Vern (Verna) Parrish of Downers Grove, Il.; and Mrs. James (Dorothy) Webb of San
Francisco, Ca.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
The Rev. David Wenger officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Joe Tolaney, Arendt Danielson, Godfrey Dyre, Clarence, Kenneth
and Lyle Verhulst.
John Fox, Tennes Navrestad, harry Johnson and Henry Nielsen sang, Trust and
Obey,” and the congregation sang, “How Firm a Foundation” and “Behold a Host”,
with Mrs. Don Warner as organist.
Relatives from away who came were: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wehrenberg and daughter ,
Anastasia, of Kenilworth, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Engle of Tory, Oh.; Wayne
Johnson of Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harding and Tom of Wausau; Mr. and
Mrs. Vern Parrish of Downers Grove, Il.; Dr. Don Wiersig of Bryan, Tx.; Mr. and
Mrs. Len Wiersig of Kenosha; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wiersig of Two Rivers; Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Kobs, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Wiersig of Colby.
