Witmer, Harry D. (14 MAY 1945 – 11 MAR 2016)
Harry D. Witmer, 70 of Spencer passed away peacefully with family at bedside on
Friday evening, March 11, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Harry was born on May 14, 1945 in Chambersburg, PA to Paul and Catherine
(Shoemaker) Witmer.
He was united in marriage to Diane M. Weyer on July 28, 1973 at St. Anthony's
Catholic Church in Loyal.
Harry is survived by he wife Diane, children Kimberly Bauer and Terri (Scott)
Satersmoen both of Somerset and Kurt Witmer of Hazelhurst; 5 grandchildren,
Grace (16), Leah(13), and Elise (10) Bauer, Samuel (4) and Vincent
(1)Satersmoen. He is further survived by his siblings, John (Elaine) Witmer of
Houstonia, MO; Paul Witmer, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL; Joe (Julie) Witmer of
Bluemonds, WI; Shirley (Gary) Brumbaugh of Marshfield and Bonnie (Pete)
Flashinski of Thorp.
He graduated from Shippensburg College, in Shippensburg, PA in 1967. He then
came to Loyal, WI where his family had moved a year earlier. His teaching career
began at Loyal High School (19 yr.). He also taught at Howards Groove (1 yr.)
and then Marshfield Senior High School (17 yrs.) till 2001. His love of history
was exhibited in the teaching of his students. Many remember him to this day as
"Mr. Witmer". He teaching style was strict, however there was also a time for
shared laughter and of course a "wager" on the side. In 2002 he purchased Loyal
Windshield Repair and for the next eight years repaired windshields for family,
friends, and those around the area. If he saw someone he had done a repair, many
times he'd ask how that windshield held up. He took pride in the work he did.
He served as an usher for Christ The King Church from many years and over the
years recruited others to join him. He helped at many a pancake breakfast the
Holy Name men's group.
After retiring, golf became his favorite past time hobby. He enjoyed his Monday
mornings with his golfing buddies. He liked the wildlife in the backyard, and
they benefited well from his daily feeding. His love of history continued and he
liked to question his grandchildren what they were learning and knew they could
call their grandad for the answer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Christ The
King Catholic Church in Spencer with Fr. Sam Martin and Fr. Steven Brice
officiating. Burial will be in West Spencer Cemetery at a later date.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the church
and again on Thursday from 9:30 am until service.
Rembs Funeral Home of Marshfield is assisting the family with the arrangements.
