A local youth, attending St. Olaf college is one of 36 football players who have
completed the first week of practice preparing for the season opener with Beloit
College September 19. He is John Turnquist, a 190-pound junior guard, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Art Turnquist, R. 3, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
This year Ole coach Tom Porter has a nucleus of 16 lettermen returning. They are
led by co-captains Ron Caple (International Falls), a 170-pound guard, and Ron
Ree (Montevideo), 160-pound halfback.
Regular twice-a-day workouts at the Northfield, Minnesota school have trimmed an
average of 5 pounds apiece from the 36 men. Loss of this summertime tonnage has
caused Porter to explain wryly that he's already lost the equivalent of a
180-pound player.
