John Pernic, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Pernic, Route 1, Willard (Clark Co.,
Wis.), was the local winner of a mathematics contest sponsored by the Wisconsin
Section of the Mathematics Association of America. Sixty-nine Greenwood High
School students in the geometry and advanced algebra classes participated in the
contest. The students took a test which tested their skill in working problems
involving algebra, geometry and mathematical reasoning.
As top scorer, John is now eligible to compete in another contest later which
will be conducted at Stevens Point. Three students were tied for second place
with identical scores. They were Victor Staut, Clifton Fonstad Jr. and Lloyd
Able.
Greenwood High School students have participated in the annual contest for a
number of years. Last year's local winner was Lois Fredrickson, who is now
enrolled at Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire.
